Hi all, hope some army brides/wives can help me on this one. My H2B will be getting married in his 1s and changing into a suit matching the ushers etc. later in the night for comfort. His best man is a fellow squaddie and we were going to have him wear his 2s and change later like H2B. But now, having enquired about the costs of hiring 1s, H2B now likes the idea of the best man wearing his 1s as well. However I think this will look a bit odd as they will be in matching outfits lol!! If we keep it as H2B in 1s and BM in 2s they would both look smart and stand out from the rest of the wedding party but would be one in black and one in green. Has anyone got any opinions on this? Or what are some of you doing regarding uniforms, especially if you have other military members in the wedding party? Thanks!

We had three men in No1s- the groom, and the two guards of honour. Best Man was a civi.
At all the other weddings I've been to its been all No1s as well.

Thanks dove, we've been to 2 friends weddings in last few years when groom wore 1s but the best men wore the ordinary groomsmens suits, one of them was civvy but the other was army. Suppose it's each to their own. Did it not look unusual your Hubby not being the only one wearing them?

He wanted the Guard of Honour outside.
Plus I love No1s.

The only down side to wearing unifrm is all the polishing. So many bits.

me and OH arent due to get married for 2 years but we have asked any army personnel not to wear any uniform as its our day and we want us both to stand out, also none of the men standing up with my H2B will be in the army so we really dont want ordinary guests wearing uniforms- it is just a case of personal opinions i think.
And my soul saw yours and said
"oh, I have been looking for you"
we met 07/09/2004. we loved 28/02/2012
we'll marry- 14.08.2021

My H2B is an RAF officer, pilot. I'm in the RAF as an officer too so we have a lot of RAF guests. We're telling them to wear their No.1s as they look so good. They're also having swords for a guard of honour as we leave the church. A lot of people in the military do this and it doesn't look odd... especially as a lot of people in civvi street get matching groom/ushers/Sest Man outfits...it's just the same. You could make sure your groom has a large or unique buttonhole to the groomsmen though... at the end of the day... it is a uniform designed to make everyone look the same and theres not loads of difference between 1s and 2s anyway.
As others mentioned, its a persnal choice... but wearing uniforms can save a fortune in wedding attire, always looks smart and appropriate and looks great on and in photos!
And we lived happily ever after!

My H2B is not having anyone military in the wedding party, so he will be the only one in uniform, but any military guests will wear their no. 1s I think, they did at the wedding we went to in Sandhurst a few months ago. So if you have other military guests coming you might want to think about what they'll wear. You don't want BM to be out dressed by guests! :)

Oh, also, as officers when they are the one getting married they get this red thing to go round their waist (I have no clue what it is, it looks like a curtain tie back to me!) so that distinguished him. Will there be something like that?

December... I think that is also just officers... Officers get issued 1s where as Juniors don't... is your H2B also wearing his mess kit in the evening? (RAF No. 5 uniform) ?
Is he carrying a sword too? We're hiring a load from RAFC Cranwell (no charge but have to inusre each one which is £30-£50 per sword!) for the guard of honour outside the church where we have mutual RAF friends forming it!
We have no-one else in the wedding party in the military (other than he and thee but I am sooo wearing my lovely wedding dress!) and they're all wearing similar dark grey suits.
And we lived happily ever after!

Ah, you see, my silly fool H2B didn't take the opportunity to get his no.1s, he banked the money! So he'll be hiring them instead!
Wedding we went to recently requested that they all put their mess kit on in the evening. But I don't think we'll do that.

I think I'm gonna ask for Chris to put his on in the evening... But maybe not ask the other lads... it's not a hotel and doesn't have accomodation where lots could get changed... they look nice with their braces on jackets off when relaxing though so I don't think it'll look bad!
