I read somewhere in a bridal mag, that you can look at getting wedding sponsors.... This seems to be done by going into agreement as such with your suppliers that you will recommend, advertise that they are the ones supplying you with products....

Has anyone had any luck with sponsors, or getting discounts, I feel a bit afraid to ask.

The only thing I've been really fortunate with is the jeweller my fiancé bought my antique engagement ring from, has since said to me, that I can borrow any of his jewellery that he has in his antique shop for my wedding day - which is amazing!!!

I'm wondering if I can make any savings on transport etc

I'm sure there was someone on the forum a while back that had done this for their wedding. If I remember rightly, opinion was very split on here from members.

I couldn't 'bump' the thread on here because it had been closed from last year - but if you go into the search option and look for 'Sponsored wedding - WITH AN UPDATE BY THE BRIDE HERSELF!' you should find the thread.

Just read the thread, and an interesting idea it is too.

Personally, I think it shows ingenuity however I would not like to have banners and logos on invites etc...and have to thank them in the speeches etc, it all sounds a bit corporate to me and I think the focus of the wedding day should be on the happy couple.

If it could be done discreetly, it wouldn't be so bad, however I don't really see what the company gets out of it?

Like a lot of brides to be, I think personal recommendations are the best way to find a supplier, and if I go to a wedding, see something I like I will ask the bride (after the wedding) about the supplier. A lot of invites/upload able photos and wedding cars already have some class of advertising on them.

There was quite a lot of negativity on the other thread for the idea, but on the whole whilst I agree with the principle that you should live within your means, a lot of us brides are trying to get more bang for their buck.

One thing I would insist on - there's no class of advertising etc in the actual ceromony. Marriage is a solemn and sacred occasion, and the thought of someone using it to push their product I find very distasteful.

I thing it's a matter of degrees. If I got a free or heavily discounted cake just for having a little sign saying 'made by xyz' I'd go for it...if it meant having my wedding day look like a wedding fayre, I think I'd pass.

    Xx

Laurajo I completely agree. I wouldn't want my wedding to be an advertisement.... I would only think of it if it was discreet I.e as in your last comment.

I only wondered if anyone else had done it, as it wasn't something I had come accross before, and certainly don't know anyone personally who has done it. I myself think I'm too embarrassed to haggle even. Lol

I think its a brilliant idea, i just wouldn't have the balls! lol. I would imagine its a lot more stressful that way, as you have to keep the suppliers happy not vice versa! B2Bs ask for discounts every single day. surely this is just a glorified way of doing this?

tbh if companys have "sponsored" your wedding i think they would expect far more than a mention in a speech ... after all whats happens if the speeches come and nothing is said ..no advertising for said company !!

I would presume that there would be contracts drawn up and such like. it's probably more than just a mention in a speech tbh, but you never know unless you try. Not saying do the whole wedding, maybe just specific necessities?

I think it could work with suppliers who are just setting up and need to get themselves out there...

I know it's not the same thing, but it's a little similar:

We are having our invites made for a discount price (after the rabbit ate our save the dates and I lost interest!) by a friend of a friend who has a card making business on the side and wants to branch out into wedding stationery. She will have her name and logo on the back of the main invites, but it's only the size of a 5p piece and most stationery has some class of company logo on the back anyway, in return she will be able to use my testimonial on her website and use me as a reference for for future clients. I also said I would recommend her to other engaged friends (but tbh only if her work is decent, of course, but the samples she's done our stunning), and it will also help with word of mouth.

Tbh, even if the wedding stationery turns out to be a disaster, its not something that's hugely important to us or would be hugely difficult to sort out if it all goes wrong...I wouldn't do something like this for the photographer, for example.

I wouldn't have the nerve either to do it ordinarily...but a friend suggested it to our stationery maker who was all for it xx

i think it depends on their expectatations as to the extent of the advertising you would have to do on their behalf.

cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo
    start weight 10st 1.5 lbs
    weight now 8st 4.5 lbs
total loss to date: 24.5 lbs now need to maintain!

my wedding co-ordinator did mention this to us when we booked the venue my OH is training to be a pilot in the army and the co-ordinator jokingly said we could land a helicopter at our venue if we wanted… well the conversation turned into having the local news getting involved which would bring out the "sponsor" suppliers not sure i'd like my face on the 6 o clock news though xx
