can anyone reccomend a hair dye that won't irritate a sensitive scalp? Or a one that doesn't have any PPDs. I've seen semi permanants without that but are there any permanant ones out there? I asked my hairdresser but she says doesn't know any

I don't know what you're planning on doing but when I have my bleach put on I get Tigi bleach (at the salon) as it doesn't burn or itch so it much be more sensitive. I'd ask more hairdressers there must be something...

Im a hairdresser and I would say the best thing for you to use would be a Henna colour, its not worth taking the risk if your sensitive to PPD's, I have seen the worst side effects ever.
good luck huni xx

I can only use completely natural dyes due to allergic reactions but cannot find a true permanent one.
My favourite is Logona 100% botanical which comes in either a powder you mix or a pre done cream. Coverage is good but it does fade, especially if you use normal shampoos. I have just bought Naturtint Reflex but again is non permanent but as a new formula it is supposed to last up to 1 month and contains no ppd's. I need to do a patch test and I will need 2 bottles as I have long hair but I am hoping it does not fade as quickly. If you find anything please let me know!
Gemma - is henna the one where once you go dark you can't go back to light again? I'd considered henna but I wasn't sure about it, I was hoping there would be another solution (I do like changing my hair colour drastically...blue...pink...and red have been known in the past) But if I can't find one I would happily use henna for the sake of my scalp

There are different types of henna products the colours are fantastic im not sure if they do light colours (ie blonde) but there are also other variations like botanical/natural hair colours also hemp products are worth a try x

Oh I remember now! It gets right in and stains the hair so its really hard to get the colour out. I did look for natural products but they still had PPDs. I'll check out henna again, and the hemp products. Thanks Gemma xx

Henna is great though a little messy lol. I have a sensitive scalp and used to use it all the time when I was younger. I now use herbal essences and they are ok for me, but I would DEFINATELY do a patch test if you are ultra sensitive to things, not worth taking the risk of an allergic reaction.

john frieda has just brought out a home colour range that im planning to try, dont know what the ingredients etc are though

Does anyone know what happened to the herbal essences range of red dyes? I have been looking everywhere for them but nowhere seems to sell them. I wonder if they have been discontinued :-(

Hi the John Frieda precision foam is a great product I tested this before it was brought into shops, however it does contain PPDs so wouldn't advise to use on sensitive skin/scalp xx

i dont think you can get any without ppd? what colour do you wanna go
CommentAuthorboo
dark brown or black. I'm thinking about using semi permanat dye (haven't used that since I was 17) as long as they don't have any PPDs and seeing how it lasts before I have to redo it. Gemma does henna come off (I'm a big fan fan of the directions hair dye but its always staining afterwards and fades way too quick)

Henna dyes the hair shaft inside out so it fades/ grows out with time depending what shampoo you use. It is the main ingredient of the Logona dye I gave the details for further up. The powder is very messy and with very long hair I found it painful making sure it covered everywhere. The cream version is so much better and brilliant for touch ups but you have to keep it on up to 2 hours to work! Be warned brown henna will generally turn grey hair a reddy colour rather than brown but as my hair is very chestnut it works for me. I am not sure what the black henna would turn grey! Logona do a range of colour shampoos which make a huge difference and make the colour last much longer. You must still do a test though because you can still react to natural ingredients. I think I am starting to react to the henna which is really bad news hence going to try the Naturtint.

Just read an article from June last year that says there are no permanent hair dyes without ppd and even some henna products can contain ppd to make covering the grey more effective! Mine field!
These 2 sites look good:

I would be interested in what you end up trying and can report back on the Naturtint Reflex if thatwould be any good?

Naturtint still contains PPDs, I tried that a while back, it wasn't as bad but the problem was still there, I can't pass comment on the other one as I've never heard of them.

The old Naturtint is permanent and contains ppds.
They have a new range...Naturtint Reflex (semi permanent) which does not and the one I am going to try

I just find kinda hard to belive that in the 21st century no one has come up with a good permanant hair dye thats safe for all

I know and apparently ppds have such massive health risks associated with them. They have already limited the concentration of ppd in Europe but Sweden, Germany and France have banned it outright! Is only a matter of time before everyone is stopped from using them. So, there is apparently a big rush on to find an alternative...wish I could find it..could do with the dosh!!! ha. Is there any on the links I gave you fancy trying?
