Hi girls! Im lucky enough to have a rather large engagement ring, its beautiful but i have now found a problem...i cant find a wedding band to fit with it!

H2b and I went to try some on the other day and i can only fit the thinnest little bands on with it. I also can't really have anything with stones in as my engagement ring will scratch them or knock them out. We wanted to get matching rings and didn't really want something completely plain. H2b suggested wearing my engagement ring on a different finger after we're married so i can get a nicer wedding band but it feels a bit wrong to not wear them together.

What are you girls doing/have done? xx

    Hi rachael
my engagement ring is quite unusual and it took me a while to find a wedding ring to match it but i finally did. I was also wondering about wearing it on a differnet finger, and in spain (im spanish) they wear engagement on one hand and wedding ring on the other. But i wanted to wear them together, as i am living here coz i would think it doesnt look like im married...

I'd speak to a proper jeweller and see what they come up with.

My ring is large (though not expensive; it's a antique-style diamond cluster in a kind of flower shape), and because of the shape, a standard band just won't work. So I'm having one custom-made; it will be very weird on it's own, as basically, they're making a kind of 'lip' in plain white gold for the ring to sit over, so it doesn't scratch or knock the diamonds I've having in the visible band. It's really hard to explain, but the visible band will be tiny pave-set diamonds to match the shoulders and halo on my e-ring, and then when it's on it's own there'll be an additional plain white-gold bit. Because it looks weird on it's own, I'm then having a plain palladium band.

So yeah, before you start panicking, speak to a proper jeweller, as they may be able to construct it in a similar way to mine, so that you can have diamonds.

Hi Rachael my engagement ring is not very large but its unusual and different and i love my emerald engagement ring, its shaped and kinda reminds me of a kind of snake design and I want to have the exact wedding ring as my H2B to so I've decided to go to a design event at Ernest Jones where they pictures of your engagement ring and or they scan you engagement ring and they design a wedding band to match your engagement ring so they fit together perfectly. So I think you and your H2B should pop off to Ernest Jones and get yourself a Consultation, if you look at there website you can find out when they are having there design days, if you was in brom like me there is a Design Day On Saturday 12th January 2013 you have to call and book or pop into to make an appointment if, you cant make the day just ask to come in and speak to a specialist and have a design consultation the consultation is free but the rings will be quite pricey but i think its worth the money, your only getting married once to the love of your life and you want to wear your rings together forever to look married. So have a think hope this is helpful for you Rachael ♥ X

I was considering just wearing my engagement ring on the other hand afterward but I too felt a bit funny about it. I just kept looking and looking and then eventually came to the conclusion that I would have a thin, plain wedding band! If i'm totally honest, it's not 100% what I would have really wanted but I just had to decide between - get a nicer ring but wear them separately or go with a plainer one and get to where them together. I thought a long time about it but eventually when I looked at plain rings for long enough I started to feel more at home with it as it is more tradional and like my mom and grandparents rings - kinda classic. As long as I wear the two together they look fine, although I sometimes worry that people won't be able to see that i'm married!!

Sorry I can't offer a solution for you but I can sympathise with your situation completely. You 're defo not the only one thinking this! x

I don't intend to wear mine together as I'd rather have my engagement ring on the other hand than compromise on our wedding bands, which we plan to make for each other ourselves :)

I have quite a large e-ring & if I was to wear a standard shape wedding ring they would sit about half a centimetre apart on my finger, looking strange.

I'm getting my wedding shaped around my e-ring so they sit next to each other. The only bad thing about this is that you have to leave them your e-ring whilst they get the shape right & if you're like me & hate taking it off, that's not good :(.

If you're near to Birmingham or can get there, go to the'quarter of jewellery' as the family run jewellers there are very reasonably priced.

    Hope that helps xx

I agree with lala, a picture of it would really help. Mine is a very awkward shape and I had to design and have my wedding ring made to fit round the shape of it. May be you could do something like that?

I was worried about this - when I went to view my wedding venue the planner had a similar ring and gave us the names of 2 jewellers in Brighton (quite close to me) that are reasonable for custom made wedding bands to fit. I originally wanted matching bands the same as you and am hoping the jeweller will know a way to do this as well :-)

My engagment ring is more like a wedding band and very blingy...theres another discussion on this somewhere on here! and theres a bit about wearing your engagement ring on the oppersite hand...

im just opting to reuse the engagement ring as a wedding ring! I dont think ill love any other ring like I love this one...and a plain ring wouldnt go with it. The OH doesnt like the idea but hes got no choice! haha

My e ring is quite big, picture in my album and I thought the same. Ideally I wanted to wear them together. We had 2 companies come to the house and both suggested sending my ring away and having my wedding ring moulded around my e ring so fits snugly. This was expensive and I was worried about sending my ring off. Then we popped into jewlerry quarter in Birmingham and spoke to jewlerrys direct who took a model of my ring there and then and knocked up a silver example and I loved it. It was easy to visulaise how they would look together and I could add diamonds or make the bands thicker and were awesome.

So my advice would be go direct to jewlerrys, don't bother with companies as the mark up was massive and get some real advice straight from the gold smith and not a sales person in the middle.

I am really bad with jewelry, I always manage to break rings so my ring is low set & I purposefully went for a ring with flat sides to it would sit flush with my wedding band. My friend had to get a piece cut out of her wedding band so it would sit with her e-ring, looks lovely together but, as some of you have said already, wedding band looks funny on its own

Just wanted to say I second millz's post; very well said!

Do NOT go to a high-street jeweller or a 'middle man'/salesperson; you will end up paying a lot more.

I'm paying less for a custom-made ring than I would for a standard ring on the high-street. I've also had quotes for custom-made rings with a popular high street jewellers (E J), and a company who's very popular on here, and they were extortionate; massively overpriced, and about 70% more than I'll be paying.

Had a silver model made (free of charge at the JW Quarter) and it fitted perfectly with my e ring so went ahead and had a gold version made. It is only simple gold so £124 as they dont charge to take models of my e ring. they dont look to bad together.....

and then if i want to wear my e ring alone it looks ok ok can swivel it around.

Thanks honey, i really love them and i wanted a simple wedding ring as my engagement ring is big enough.

We just went into town and followed signs for Jewlerry quarter and its just a street with jewelers all along it. We then just popped in and out of a few shops and had a nosey but nice to directly speak to the goldsmiths and not sales people especially if your having it designed/made. If not jump on the train to Snow Hill and come out the station and turn right and you'll see all the shops. Defiantly recommended it 100% as beet every quote we got elsewhere xxx

    Wedding and Engagement ring together
    Wedding and Engagement ring together

Ok, here are mine together. As you can see, very awkward shape. My wedding ring also looks better over the top of my engagement ring, which is how I wear it. I designed the wedding ring myself (is has a much wider curve than other curved rings) and having the teeny diamonds either side of the curve was my mother's idea. I was really surprised how they really finished the ring off.
Like Millz, we went direct to a great jeweller, but in Hatton Garden, and they made a mock up in silver with cubic zirconia so I could see how it looked and make sure I was 100% happy before getting it made in platinum.

MrsDeaton: £1k is really steep, depending on what you're having of course. I've been quoted £450 for a 9ct white gold band with about 20 tiny pave-set diamonds. Obv 18ct is more expensive (though I wasn't quoted too much more) as is platinum, and the size of the diamonds also affects the price.

hmm I dont know what to advise now I have seen it. I have a large solitaire but I was adamant I didnt want a think band that dipped to accomodate the size of the stone. I therefore went for a normal shape ring and now I just have a 2mm gap in places between the two rings but this to me was more acceptable than having an indented e.ring. However, the sapphire one wont allow this. I would go to an independent and see if they can design you a ring.

Yes, Rachael, I can see what you mean about it being a similar shape. I think mine is smaller though, so you may not even be able to get away with the shape of band I had. It would definitely be worth your while making an appointment to see an independent jeweller - I wouldn't do any of the regular high st places if I were you. Where abouts are you based?

I've worked out the difference! Yours is a 6point and mine has 8 points. Every other one on mine is slightly smaller, so therefore, where the curve on my band is, is where the smaller points are. I'm not sure that you could have the curve, to be honest, because your points are really quite large. I guess you could, but it would be a very wide curve, and take a lot more gold than normal...
