Hi everyone, just joined this site. So much to look at and not enough time :-)
Our wedding is in 2015 and just wondered if anyone here is/has got married in Gretna as I'd love to hear your stories.
We are going for a look while on holiday this year and I can't wait. Any tips and ideas what we should look at would be appreciated.
We have unofficially chosen ***@nv1113 &@11 for the ceremony and ***Th3 G@b135 for the reception.
Look forward to your comments :-)

We got married at Gretna Green, at the Gretna ***H@11 B1@ck5m1th5 and reception at the *** S01w@y 10dg3 hotel. We looked a few places up on the internet first, and then booked some of the wedding through the Gretna Wedding Bureau. They helped a lot as we picked the wedding venue and they arranged the paperwort, minister and photographer for us (we picked the package). We could've booked flowers, transport cake and even a piper with them as well, but we did these ourselves. We're not strict religious people but wanted a religious ceremony - so we told the bureau this when we booked - and they organised a minister from the ***A553mb1!35 of God church (lovely man, but no dog colar etc and so friendly).
For our transport we had a VW Camper - and the company was really reasonable as they were based just up the road in Dumfries.
The ***@nv1113 H@11 can be booked through the bureau as well I think - and the ****G@b135 seems to get good reviews.
We visited Gretna once we'd booked the wedding, and tbh stumbled on the ***501w@y10dg3 by accident (we were looking for a restaurant as we were staying somewhere else). Once we tried the food though, asked a few questions about wedding receptions etc, we knew we wanted there for our reception. Nothing was too much trouble - and the wedding co-ordinator, Iain, was fantastic (he has lots of local connections so could help out with just about anything).
Once you go for a look around you'll love it up there. We visited again 3 months before the wedding to hand in our M10 forms - and finished up being roped into being witnesses for a couple who'd eloped!! lol

We went to look at Gretna but decided otherwise because of family getting up there but if I could pick ***@nv1113 &@11 up and move it to Lincoln I would.. It's absolutely beautiful !
We went to see the ***G@b135 too and it's really nice.. If your budget can stretch I'd go for ***5m1th5 H0t31 though as its some kind of wonderful ! Xxx
Oh and go to where the blacksmiths area is, there's a shop that sells loads of alcohol and you get to try it all for free and they even feed you shortbread to soak it up hehe.. Have to say, I left there a bit tipsy ! Xxx

The ***5m1th5 is ok Georgi - but it's completely different to the rest of Gretna. If you're looking for traditional there's lots of hotels and venues that are absolutely fantastic but still hold the traditional style of Gretna Green. We looked at ***5m1th5 online and passed it whilst we were up there - but tbh it's very modern (and on the edge of Gretna Green).
CommentAuthorMrsH-2B
Yeah it is very modern, but the rooms and bridal suite are amazing.. We weren't looking for the tradition of Gretna, we were looking to get away from a very selfish family member.. But then I realised I'd be punishing my aunties and nanny who might not have been able to make the trip all because of one person.. Xxx

Gretna is a gorgeous place, have been past it loads of times. sorry not been to any weddings there so can't give you a better review on it. If we hadn't decided on getting married abroad then i would have defintely looked at gretna as one of our chosen places.

Hi mym, lovely to hear your story and glad you had a wonderful time. I can't wait to go visit.
Hi georgi, thanks for your input, hey the alcohol sounds great but unfortunately I'll have to drive back to Edinburgh after so that might have to wait til we get a chance to visit another time.
Think I'm with mym on the ****5m1th5 H0t31 I do want the traditional look of the building for photos and that's just too modern for me.

so, here it goes. we are now thinking about gretna green instead of a registry office. i have looked on the website and they offer packages just for the bride and groom and provide the witnessess which i think is perfect for me.(i suffer bad from anxiety and i think having my family around me is too much, i much prefer a private ceromany just me and my oh). anyway has anyone done this before. how did u get on. the package i have found is the romance package at the ***m111 f0rg3 which is £445 obviously price dependant to 2017 it includes ceromany venue, 2 nights in the bridal suite intimate 4 course meal for bride and groom, bucks fizz on arrival, sparkling wine to celebrate, witnesses if required (something we need) and a wedding planner assistance.. now how did this work for you guys like on the day of the wedding not letting the groom see the dress & obviously help getting into the dress. transport is it something thats needed tp get to the ceromany, is the 2 nights stay near?. and obviously we want photography how did you choose your photographer.. and most importantly what did you do after in terms of the meal and everything else ? arghh im pulling my hair out
Sorry for the long post im trying to find something thats perfect for us and gretna green sounds just that, but not making any decisions without hearing other peoples opinions and storys oof how theirs went. p.s i have never been to a wedding only seen it on the tv so i have no idea thankyou xxx

How romantic! Love the idea of just the bride and groom 'running off' to Gretna Green. Hope you get the wedding you dream of.

Have you tried searching for a FB page? There is a local wedding planning FB page for me where suppliers advertise etc. There may be one similar for Gretna xx

Yeah I follow that one GF. In terms of finding things Gretna-specific there may be one just for that though xx
Edit - or do you mean "us" as in where you live? I thought you meant UKB initially but now I'm not sure lol!
