Getting wound up of this wedding planning and family doing my nut in. I want to get married abroad, but my h2b doesn't, he wants a big wedding and I want small lol so finally I got him to consider the idea but his worried it will be to expensive and people won't be able to afford it.
So my question is to any1 getting married aboard is
How exspesive is it? Are any of u getting really good deals? Are your family/friends attending? How much are they paying?
Please let me know
Thanks, Tori xxxx

1. It depends on where you want to get married. We are getting married in Spain and so our guests flights are quite cheap. Most European destinations are fairly reasonable in terms of flights and accommodation etc. Italy can be pricey though depending on region, as can France.
2. Packages are often pretty good value for money, and finding a good planner for a good price is the best thing for a destination wedding... However doing it yourself can be cheaper in the right circumstances. We are doing it ourselves but we have an advantage as my h2b, his brother and parents are all very good Spanish speakers meaning language is not an issue and we dont have to stick to English speaking suppliers etc. I also have Peter's mum to look for things for me and do things I would have otherwise had to fly over myself to do etc...
3. So far we have had quite a good response from family... But you have to remember that choosing a destination wedding means that you may find that more guests will be unable to attend due to work not allowing time off, money, not liking travel, etc etc We have a guest list of around 30 and we a re expecting most of that number to attend... Be understanding that people may just not have the time or money to join you, and consider that it may be nicer to have a small reception when you get home to include those who were unable to attend!
Hope that helps, we are having a strange type of destination wedding so I may not be much help on some things but I'm always happy to answer questions!

Im getting married in Cuba, don't know too much about prices yet as theyve not been released, but I know that most of the hotels (there at least) offer deals if enough adults are staying.
We've worked out that at the most expensive it'll cost us £4,000, and that will be for 2 adults and one child for 2 weeks.
I'd pop into a travel agent for some ideas and guidance at least and then look online xx
The most amazing man I could have ever hoped to meet!
I can't wait to become Mrs Kelsall

Hi Tori, We're getting married in Portugal next year. The total cost includes everything for the wedding, plus an 11 day holiday for £7000. That's based on 50 guests. We chose portugal as its only a 2 and a half hour flight and cheap flights go on sale around christmas time so are sending invites out in late October. As Ataraxia says its europe so not too expensive for guests, plus they get a nice holiday too. Our venue is beautiful, right on the beach and we are having a beach bbq. I have had to do some bartering to get prices lower and I'm making my own invites, bouquet and we are taking over our wedding cake from M&S to save money. (I checked with customs at the airport who said we were allowed to take fruit cake over) We are also having a party when we get home for the people we couldn't invite but that is just at a local civic hall, which we will decorate ourselves. (That is costing an additional £800, but as this is something our mums wanted they are footing this bill themselves) The planning has been very easy with the help of 2 lovely ladies out in Portugal. (I got them to help with the legal stuff and their cost has been negligable with all the bartering they have helped me do!) Good luck with deciding on your wedding location, I hope you get everything you want in the end xxx

hiya we were £5000 for 2 week holiday for the 3 of us plus our wedding package, which to be honest didn't consist of that much. our guests stayed outwith our resort so we had our reception outwith the hotel which was the cheapest option, our guests came to our hotel at 1.30 for drinks, our wedding was at 2.30, we stayed in the hotel till 4 then I hired a vintage bus at 120 euros to take us to the restuarant, there was 10 adults and 10 kids and our meal cost 165 euros, we put some money behind the bar and when that was done the guests paid for the they're own. we had a great day, the wedding package consisted of the registrar coming to the hotel to marry us, our wedding certificate, my bouquet, button hole for groom, 1 tier wedding cake and a champagne toast for two, breakfast in bed day after wedding and a candle lit dinner. we paid extra for button holes for the men, and flowers for the bridesmaids and cake decorations, we paid hotel price but the girl I now know would get you all of this for cheap, she is a diamond. I'll post some pics now, if there's anything else you want to know let me know. xx

Hi Tori This is copied and pasted from my Cyprus thread there are a few aleratations to prices so updated a few of the figures. £250 Ceremony inc ALL costs (wedding planner is optional for around £300+ but we are doing it ourselves, paperwork is quite straightforward) - Booked
£1,697.00 Package price for all these 3 things - 1) 2hour sunset private yacht charter cruise - for up to 150 people max with Bucks fizz on arrival, glass of champagne for toasts, non-alcoholic drinks for children and selection of canapes. Also includes captain and crew, music, open bar fuel, port tax etc. 2) 4 way journey on the open top Wedding Bus to include pick all guests from villas/hotels to ceremony, then ceremony to yacht via a scenic coastal tour with a glass of champagne, then yacht to evening restaurant and then restaurant to guests villas/hotels...we can also take our own CD'S if we want to play our own selection of music on the Bus Journeys. 3) BMW convertible and BMW saloon, for bride and bridesmaids, pageboys etc. from villa to ceremony. - Booked Can give link for company that do all 3 if wanted.
£49 Wedding Insurance - hugely important - paid
£800 (after 15% discount) Evening 3 course meal with carafes of red and white wine and and non alcoholic drinks with 15% off total bill (after a few emails and a bit of cheek from me). Based on 44 adults and 5 under 12's - booked
£300 all entertainment = Cypriot dancers, Karaoke and Evening DJ.
£183 Flowers received. Sending them to my uncle in Paphos next month.
£400 for photographer for all day to include unlimited photos on cd.
£140 each return flights inc taxes etc. I will shop around more but these are some of the best prices. Obviously these are no frills flights but for 4 and half hours its fine for us.
£600 - Villa for 2 weeks with pool sleeps 6. I found a great site where you book straight with villa owners, great prices and huge choice. Booked
£220 car hire for 2 weeks - not strictly to do with the wedding so was optional but we want to see as much of Cyprus as possbile.
£120 Cake 3 tier same as original bit in different colours that was going to cost £352 in UK - Booked
Dress £120
We are now working on a budget of just over £5.000 rather than the original £10k - £12k for the UK wedding that was causing us so much stress, and we have a honeymoon included now! xxx

I think it depends how you are going about a wedding abroad. I looked into weddings at hotel resorts and was about to give up as they were just hugely expensive. I then had a go at putting together a day that I really wanted, bit by bit and it saves masses of money. Also instead of paying hotel prices, we chose the cheaper option of self catering in a villa. £600 for 3 bedroom with pool for 2 weeks isn't too bad.
