My partner and i would love to get married abroad, we would elope if we could but i want my dad to be able to give me away more than anything (soppy cow i know!). So we want to take only immediate family to somewhere in the Caribbean perhaps!?
Does anyone have any advice, anyone else planning a wedding abroad or been to one!? I would love to know some sort of rough price guide so we know what sort of figure we are looking at.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Hun, we are getting wed abroad & having a reception when we get back. There are lotsa things to think about:
    1) save now as u can't book til 11 months before due to flights not being released
    2) decide if ur staying 1 wk or 2. Long haul like carribean is better as 2wks as it will prob b around n xtra £200.
    3) r u combing it with ur honeymoon? If so u might like a twin hotel deal where u stay in 1 place b4 the wedding & another like a couples only after the wedding
    4) if a group is going book together to reduce costs & look out 4 free wedding hotels that give the wedding package 4 free.

That's all I can think of 4 the mo hope it helps
    xxx

Thanks thats really helpful! We wanted to look into going somewhere where our immediate family can come stay for a few days, maybe a week for the wedding, then they leave and we stay another week or two or maybe go on to another place like you said for the honeymoon. I'll get researching. Thank you!

most places u need to be a resident too, where u need to be in the resort for 5-7 days before u can get married,...and also check what the rules are on your marriage certificate as some dont come in english so you'll have to get it translated when u get back and some wont send it for about 6-8 months after you've been married x

make sure you get all your documentation sorted out months and months in advance you know what councils are like, and ALSO you have to make sure that the documentation is translated correctly one spelling mistake means a wasted journey however, if you arrange through travel agents etc they ensure this is all rule thru the mill correctly its their rep on the line otherwise xx

Hi I am getting married abroad and advice would be
    1. Documentation check now requirements of paperwork needed? Do you have to be a resident for so many days? Is the wedding legally binding here or will you need to see a registrar when you get back?
    2. If doing it independently look on forums like trip advisor for how helpful the staff were as they will be your main point of contact
    3. If going through an agency get the rep that is in the country you are thinking of to deal with you and dont take their first prices they can always do deals locally
    4. Some places like certain hotels in Jamaica and dom rep have weddings all day every day so it sometimes feels like a bit of a conveyor belt go for a later time in the day so you will be the last and get to see the sunset too.
5.Get your family on board now the longer they have to save the better they will be
    6. Start saving just because you cant book more than 11 months ahead doesn't mean you cant get a rough idea in your head.
    7. Passports everything will have to be booked in the name on your passport now as you have to show your birth certificates to get married and to change it you need a registrars proof which you wont be able to get as getting married abroad.
    8. Start thinking of dress and luggage allowance.
    9. Set a budget and stick to it it can easily spiral out of control with all the extra add ons hotels will offer.
    10. Choose a venue and have a fab time i am sooooooooooooooooo excited about mine i want to go tomorrow xxxx

We booked Jamaica yesterday! 2wks all Inc for just us 2 was just under £4k b4 my nxt discount. The wedding package itself was an extra £629 as we needed to Inc witnesses & also the processing if the marriage certificate, don't get caught out here, the basic packages may not include processing. Some venue costs r still hidden, we don't know how much the photographer will be etc, so be wary if your on a tight budget.

TC stop their flights mid Oct, so they quoted me on V flights, I asked V for a quote & the same hol ended up 800 cheaper in total! Always ask which airline it is when u get quoted so you can shop around.

Wedding brochures r released in December so altho flights were available end nov, we still had to wait another 3 weeks to book.

I think we need to get our paperwork stamped by a solicitor b4 we send it, that's an extra cost I hadn't considered.

For residency, I think the Caribbean is 2-4 days b4 u can marry, so check as you have guests going.

They will ask for ur preferred 3 dates but this can be moved even when ur out there, do not get things engraved or specifically printed! Seems lots of couples have been caught out!

Remember peak heat times 11-3ish, ppl forget lotion in the panic & standing there frying! We've requested 3pm so there's lovely light, not too hot & still close enough to sunset time for extra photos.

Be specific with ur flowers, heard a story of some1 asking for something exotic, they got chrysanthemums.....they were exotic to them!!

ha ha this all sounds fab, my advice is research research research. from what I have seen don't let them organise everything and just turn up, be in contact constantly with them making sure you are getting what you have paid for.

We thought about it, but seen as though my bro is an important guest for me and he's a teacher we didn't want to get caught out with school holiday prices :)

    I'm now a married woman
    I have a gorgeous husband
    Whats to do now
Theres no more wedding planning to do

Most of the final details are apparently dealt with in resort, but that's why it's important to be clear about exactly what you want if possible so you don't leave things to chance! I'm going to ask to be in touch directly with my co-ordinator....once I have one!
