omg just read it!!.....but where the fook and who the fook would spend 20k on wedding equipment?? my mum has bween a wedding photographer for 30 years and she still works with the SLR cameras rather than digital....she doesnt need any fancy pants stuff (no offence to those lovely photographers out there that do have this kinda equipment lol) she started off with the basic stuff and has much and such the same....she's a fab photographer (not just sayin this cause im bias) but she's never had one complaint other than 2 very nasty people who were insulting her work when she was doing the best she could do with the situation!!!

    gahhhhhhhhhhhh lol

yes croc the closed and sunk it!!!

persnoally if you really enjoy your job and enjoy what you do..you wouldnt get on at people for you havin to work unsociable hours..surely as aphotographer when you take on that as a profession you know what it will involve and entail..theres gotta be a fair balance between a good price for photographer and the bride and groom!

neoo my eyes REALLY hurt !

Yeah it's been closed. I'm shocked that "so say" a photographer has posted the thread somewhere for other photographers to see!

Surely they should understand pretty much every bride is on a budget? And aren't all going to be able to afford to spend loads. They should understand there will be people who are going to have a rant about it!

I don't think my photographer is going to be crap because he isn't charging the usual. He doesn't need to charge a fortune, it's not his main income.

Everyone is different and it's really bugged me to think photographers are moaning about us brides for not wanting to pay there mental fee's

As I said in the thread - Do Not Feed the Troll. They joined for a reaction - you'd just be giving them what they wanted. The internet is full of people who will do or say all sorts of unbelievable stuff just to see the reaction they cause. I have seen sooo many cases of people signing up repeatedly to places to harass others, and posting stuff just to start an argument. It's really not worth anything other than ignoring.

It actually gave me a laugh 20k for equipment - nah dont think so, and trust me, self emp photographers, make a mint with creative accounting.
Can you imagine booking someone like that????? Shocking!!!

In fact I praise that post and think that all Brides should read it. Now I am DEFO meeting potential photographers as I was just gonna pick one from looking at the photos.

I wouldn't say that they're unreasonable in saying that their equipment costs around £20k. The cameras most good photographers use will be at least £1500 just for the body (they need at least two, in case one breaks). Then they have multiple lenses which cost hundreds and head up into the thousands for some. Then they have flashes, other lighting set-ups, a high spec PC and all the photo editing software (another few grand). Add to that training to keep improving their skills, membership of professional bodies, advertising, insurance and even coffees while schmoozing potential clients.

You wouldn't ask a high school kid on minimum wage to fight your case in court, or if you did you'd deserve the results you get; why should a photographer have to get by on less than minimum wage because you think that their art is enough reward?

Sure you can get someone to do your photography really cheap, but you won't get a full time professional photographer who doesn't have another job.

My few friends who are starting out doing wedding photography are still working in full time jobs on top of doing weddings some weekends. They still lose a lot of money in keeping their equipment and training up to date. My partner is a keen amateur photographer and even with buying his equipment from Hong Kong he's spent well over £5k on cameras, lenses, lighting and accessories over the course of about five years.

I just get really fed up with all the rants about how overpriced any photographer charging over £300 is.

I do think the troll was very rude, but my last sentence summed it all up. We're paying just under £1500 and I'm really happy with what we're paying and what we're getting. Our photographer has been tracking me on another forum to keep up with our plans and emails me every now and again when he sees a new development. He's an absolute sweetie and I trust him to do a great job with our pre-wedding, wedding and post-wedding shoots.

JaeSin - I'll see what I can do about sneaking you an evening invitation. :-p

I for one have not had a rant about how expensive they are, I don't have a budget for photography but I found I didn't need to pay a lot as I come across a photographer with reasonable prices, £860, who's work is just as good as anyone else's.

I understand why they have to charge what they do charge but I don't understand why they think some people aren't going to moan about the prices and when they do it's wrong and they are rude to people.

I'm glad I'm not handing my money over to someone like that

I don't think it's unreasonable to say that their equipment is expensive but it is unfair to say that means they can charge whatever they want - if they choose to spend that on their equipment, that's fine but it doesn't make them a better photographer than someone else with less expensive equipment

The photographer we were going to use (not sure if we are now as he's my BM's ex boyfriend and it was not a pretty break up so not sure if they can be in the same room yet) has lots of expensive equipment, he's often buying new lenses etc and he's brilliant, he was only going to charge us £200 and he thought that was perfectly reasonable for all the time and editing he'll put in. My stepfather's father (step-grandfather?) does photography as a hobby, his equipment in total is worth about £75k, he did the wedding photography for when my mother married his son and even though he was using a lot of expensive equipment, the photos were good, but not amazingly good - I have a couple of amateur friends with cameras worth less than £1k who can do better.

I would be happy to pay up to £1500. What I think needs doing is a "bride" friendly registered body (aware that this may put up prices) I just think that there is just no consistancy of packages and prices so if becomes difficult to compare.

    LOL - cheers hahahahahah

I could take a picture on my digital camera, upload it to photoshop and make it look pretty awesome and all in 10 minutes.
Yes, they put the work in and equipment is expensive and I understand that, they should be paid well for it but they should not be criticising people who can't afford that and they should all make some sort of provision to be open to people who can't afford it. I'm sure they could charge someone £300 for popping along to take the "important pictures" have a quick edit and stick them on a disk

There are a few photographers bodies that you can search to see if your photographer is registered and qualified and there are varying levels of qualifications. Expensive equipment isn't the be all and end all but there is only so much you can do with a cheap digicam, no matter how much skill you have.

I have seen some who are really expensive and I personally don't like (like the Yerburys) but other people love them and they're said by many other photographers to be worth every penny.
