We are having problems with my H2B's family as they believe that our wedding venue is too far away - its about 45 mins drive away from where we live but the problem is that his disabled uncle doesnt like being in the car for very long and they think the journey could possibly stress him out. We have looked at another venue that is only 10 mins drive away but they only have either Fridays or Sundays left. Would anybody consider having either of these days instead of the traditional Saturday. Also the venue are offering a discount if we decide to go for it because it isnt on a saturday.
Thanks ladies! x

my wedding is a sunday, and a bonus is that its generally cheaper than a saturday. Fridays arent so great because people have to take a day off work, but then some people dont like sunday weddings because sundays are for rest. So it might be worth testing the waters with some of your guests and see what their thoughts are. xxx

Mine is a Friday. A few people have commented how it will be difficult because of people getting the day off, however if people really want to be there, they'll find a way. :) Xxx

fridays are usually well recieved, the people who really want to be there wil get it off work... they have plently time toget it sorted anyway! and then recover on the saturday! xx

I'm having a saturday but I'd go for the friday if it wasnt... our families like to drink and I think for that reason a Friday would be better, then they have the weekend to recover and back to work on Monday! x
When we were first planning the date we got was a friday but then we changed venue and changed to a saturday. xx

I went to a Wedding Dublin last year and it was on a Thursday. H2B was their Best Man so we had to take the week off work, which was fine as we classed it as our holiday for that year! We're getting married on a Thursday in Las Vegas and we've got some guests who live in the USA - none of them have had an issue with them having to take time off and they only get about 10 days A/L a year. I think if people want to come, they'll sort out their own issues whatever day it's on. Hx

I'd go for a friday, as people can drink, relax and even stay at you venue (if its a hotel) if they want to. Problem is with sundays, you might get people leacing early cos they've got work the next day.
Unless you can get a sunday with a bank holiday monday after - thats what I've done!! xx

Mrsstone2b I didnt think of that - my wedding is end of September so could land on the September weekend... could've saved some money there! x

We are having our's on the friday. Some pople will have to take a day off work, but then a lot of people work weekends now anyway, so if we had it on saturday, I'm sure some would also have to book that day off.
CommentAuthorheidianne
I'm getting married on a Friday it was cheaper and I love the idea of a weekday wedding has a sense of individuality. My guest are booking days off work so you need to give your guests plenty of notice so they can book the time off x

I'm also getting married on a Friday and we thought Friday would be better than Sunday because of people perhaps leaving early on a Sunday for work which I would have hated! so far nobody I have invited has complained about booking the day off on the Friday I agree with everyone else if they really wanna come they will be there :) xxx

i would rather a friday than a sunday so people can relax, have a drink and not worry about getting up for work but then again saying that people will have to take time off on friday and depending on where the wedding is some may need to take the monday off work aswell. so it may not make a big difference.
i have friends that teach so i would never personally get married on a friday as it is impossible for them to get the time off work xx

if people want to be there they will...we having a double whammy with our family cus were going abroad and then having a friday evening reception....we know who are true friends are and they will be there! so dont worry hun..plus our venue is £1000 cheaper cus its a friday
CommentAuthorkateh3
mines a sunday followed by a double bank hol woo! was cheaper than a sat and a friday!
CommentAuthorsuzky123
we picked sunday for business reasons and we didnt have minimum numbers.... more and more brides are not choosing a sat and this has led to many suppliers no longer offering discounts so at least u have one that will. Pick the one u prefer tho. Go with the venue you want... we had guest winging but turns out they are all coming and now more are staying over the night.

We are getting married on a Friday, nothingto do with cost but purely because we get to spend more time with people who will have travelled a long way and no one will hopefully have to rush off on Saturday morning. I would suggest Friday, if you went for Sunday people may leave early for wrk the next day.
CommentAuthorHoxxyhula
I'd go for a Friday over a Sunday - I think people tend to go early in time for work if you have it on a Sunday x

We are having ours on the Friday as its the beginning of the october half term and we have kids, so to enable us to have a week away we decided to get married on the friday then can take off on the saturday whilst grandparents have the children. We found that because we have planned so far in advance everyone has plenty of time to take the day off.
CommentAuthorNishaVyas88
We're having ours on a Sunday... although its on a Bank Holiday weekend, so it's practically a Saturday... except for those who aren't affected by BHs (like me). But people who are all "oooh, I can't do a Sunday because I work on Monday and I couldn't POSSIBLY book it off with 14 months advance" are being ridiculous. If they love you and want to come, they'll come.
One of my bridesmaids was adamant that she would not come into work on the day of my wedding regardless of whether she gets the day off or not. A statement that would have had more impact at her workplace- a nursery- if my wedding didn't take place during the summer holidays and on a Sunday. Haha.

Those who love you will always find a way to get to your wedding, even if it's throwing a 'sicky' at work. Those are the people you trully want supporting you and encouraging you. So it doesn't matter which day you choose. It's nice enough of you to consider your uncle i'm sure he'll appreciate it and your goodness shows. So enjoy and have a comfortable uncle, you wont even notice what day it is because it's your big day regardless x

Fridays still work well in my experience - everyone loves an excuse for an early start to the weekend! Depending on which venue we decide on we might have Friday or Sunday. Good luck xxx
CommentAuthorMel D
Personally I would rather book a Friday off than have to leave early in the evening on the sunday. My h2b has to drive 200 miles every Monday morning, and quite often I have to be at work at 6am.

we were going to go for a friday for the cheaper aspect but because having it in the church was important we had to have saturday. Some churches will marry on a friday or sunday but ours wont.

were getting married on a friday, i didn't want to get married on the "normal wedding day" so we got friday so everyone can have a good old drink and then have the weekend to recover lol, or still spend time doing whatever they wanted at the weekend

We're getting married on a Friday and no-one has complained once about taking time off work to come (except my dad, but that's largely because he has to come from sunny Dubai to gloomy England lol). We're generally finding it a little cheaper, though I am noticing a lot of suppliers aren't counting Friday as a weekday anymore - which is pretty strange considering that our guests have to take time off because it is :P
Now, finally, Mrs Riley

Im getting married on a Saturday but if I had to choose I would defo go with Friday unless as some have already said the sunday was before a BH. Lovely way to start the weekend, most wont need to leave early and if people stay overnight you can all get together again.
CommentAuthorbecky -mrs firth
if u have it on friday or sunday people will need either the friday off or the monday off work so it dont matter! i think the friday wud be better! however 45 minute drive is not bad at all!!! if ure uncles flustered they cud stop half way through and let him get out for 5 mins?
