I am on my wedding diet and I am doing really well but havent noticed much of a change in my arms. Thats the area I am most concerned about. I am having a strapless dress and I am between a 12-14 at the mo. I always used to have quite thin arms and I am desperate for them to come back but one of my bms was chatting to me the other day and said that once youve had fat arms they never go back to being slim! She wasnt being nasty or anything but I am totally freaking out that I am gunna Im not going to be able to get them back to how they were. Is anyone on here a personal trainer or fitness person that can help me? I dont want to tone up because I think I need to burn fat first but not sure what exercises to do on arms that burns fat....Can anyone help please?

    Much thanks

you should loose some weight off your arms with dieting. I lost 3 stone on weight watchers 4 years ago and my arms def slimmed alongside lots of other bits. why dont you try swimming that may help a little more as well, get rid of the old bingo wings lol know im gonna get trying it again shortly :-) x

Was going to try and put a bunch of links on your wall, but probably easier just to let you google what I did - "exercise flabby arms".

You can't control where you lose fat from when you exercise, however toning up your arms will give them a nicer shape, and adding tone will increase your calorie burn rate, which will all help with losing weight.

Don't worry about "bulking" up by doing strengthening exercises - women generally don't, and if you keep the repetitions high, then you also shouldn't end up with large muscle bulk. The genral rule is 8-10 reps to build strength/muscle bulk (that's 8-10 reps using a weight that you literally cannot do any more reps than that with), and 15 reps or more for endurance/toning.

The websites that search returns all generally agree on similar arm exercises - overhead tricep extensions, kickbacks, press ups, bicep curls, chin ups, anything like that.

I would also recommend something like a Body Combat style class, as this is one of the few cardio based workouts that works your arms as much as your legs.

I follow this as best i can and its starting to work

Do attempt three to four sets of 20 repetitions of tricep chair dips or weights about 10 minutes before you go out in a strappy dress. A short, intense session of arm exercises will leave your muscles instantly "pumped" and they will retain that firmness for some time. Soon you, too, could have arms like Halle Berry's.

Do take up skipping. It works all the major muscles in your arms and shoulders.

Do carry a shopping basket rather than push a trolley at the supermarket.

Do lift your children/cat/dog as much as possible. According to American researchers, this sort of "integrative" exercise contributes to the overall strength and tone of your arms.

Do swim. Breaststroke and front crawl are great arm-toners. And the aerobic effects of swimming help you shed fat.

Do pay attention to your diet. It's a two-way process - you reduce the fat that sits on top of the arm muscles by eating a low-fat diet, and tone the muscles underneath by exercising.

Don't shy away from using weights in the belief they will turn you into the Incredible Hulk. Women have too little testosterone to bulk up easily and weights will tone your arms.

Don't use weights that are too light. If your arms aren't tired after 12-15 repetitions, they are not heavy enough.

I've recently started using a new game for the xbox kinect, 'the biggest loser' (based on the tv series). There are lots of different types of exercise and one of them is boxing moves, so lots of punching, uppercuts etc - really works your arms hard! It's good all over excercise too, really tiring! Maybe see if you can get something like that!

I asked my friend who is a fitness instructor and she says if you're able (I'm not) to do push ups, they are the best for toning your arms. I'm determined to get there... but usually end up in a heap on the floor!

Hey girls, I totally forgot about this thread doh! I will try you guys suggestions. I dont have an xbox but I have a ps3 move- I wonder if they have the same game for that. I'm off to check it out! I can manage about 5 push ups before I crumble. See I was worried about doin push ups cos I didnt know if that would tone up the fat thats there instead of burn it? I dont know much about that kinda stuff. At the moment Im not really exercising, just eating better. However, giggin with the band is great exercise, lumping all that equipment about and dancing away whilst singing. If I was doing that 4 times a week Id be really skinny lol

The more you work out or do any kinda of physical activity, the more energy your body needs to burn, so it burns fat, but if your using weights, doing arm exercises etc you will tone at the same time.

My h2b is pretty big on his weights and that kinda stuff - he just said you need low weights but high repsetitions. Have a google search and see what it brings up. Even on the tube of You... I'm in the same boat hun and I hate my upper arms. I'm determined to get rid of them by the wedding. My gran says that washing her windows and sweeping her 3 sets of stairs for 20 odd years kept her arms in good check... I live in a flat and have a window washer, so it'll be Zumba and cans of beans for me!

    Keep me updated!! xxx
