That's awful! Even if you did not take the warranty I think you would have a good case to return it as a faulty good, and you don't need a warranty to get a refund on that. x

This isnt the first time I have heard of a stone falling out with a ring from Ernest Jones. Friends of ours were asking were we had got mine from, and I said Ernest Jones, although never again, and it turns out said friend got hers from there too. She happened to be looking for her wedding ring in one of our local jewellers, and they noticed the claw was coming away from the diamond, hers to was Ernest Jones.
Good Luck in trying to sort it hun, but my experiance on sizing my engagement ring was unfavorable, would never use them again, fingers crossed for you hun xxx

Obviously it is a recurring problem with them so go and kick up a fuss! I have had a quick look around and found this advice from trading standards.....but it all seems to relate to electrical goods. I however don't see why it shouldn't be the same for your ring.

"If there is an obvious fault with the item at any time within the first 6 months and it has not been caused by wear and tear or misuse, your first port of call must be the shop you bought it from. They have the responsibility to put the matter right, and should not evade this responsibility by referring you to the manufacturer in the context of a guarantee or warranty."

That is just ridiculous, definently take it back, that is a fault on thier behalf not yours, I would hardly expect a diamond to fall out after such a small amount of time & it's hardly likely you were doing anything that could contribute to it falling out, especially if the other diamonds are still secure in thier claws.

If you return to the store you got it from as it's so little a time that has passed they may have it on their transaction record, also take along a bank statement if you paid by card as this will help your case as well.

It sounds a bit silly but you could ask to speak to the Manager & if they don't help mention soemthin about writing to a paper, no business wants bad reviews in the news!

Also if you are making a loud fuss in the shop whilst other people are looking it might encourage them to resolve things more quickly!

You have had the ring for 2 months. The ring is not fit for purpose as it has broken in less than 60 days, and therefore does not meet its legal requirements as set out by trading standards. Just like any other item you would buy from a shop you have a certain time scale in which to return a faulty item. Your ring is faulty.
Go in, sit down with them, show them and tell them you want a refund or replacement. If they say no - tell them you are going report them to trading standards and find out your rights. I'm sure they are required by law to sort you out. The warrenty they advised you to take is an extended warranty surely. Therefore it must be under warranty still

    Good luck xxx

if all else fails and they are still being complete and utter idiots, try and claim on your home insurance as it would come under lost diamond etc.

I am now pretty worried as that is where i have got my ring from but H2B would not be happy if i took it back i think as he chose it.

    Good luck x x x

I thought that it might of been a one off but obviously not!

Mine's not from there and I'm STILL worried. H2B insured it straight away though, so I think we're covered if the diamond comes loose/the cat eats it/I throw it at him when we cancel the wedding AGAIN...

Get insured ladies, it's worth it for the piece of mind!

Thanks, i rang the shop in Derby, they said to bring it in and they would send it away to be "repaired", but i would probably have to pay for it to be done, but they could not tell till we took it in, so going in on Saturday, my boyfriend will play hell with them, but i am so upset, i loved that ring, now it just looks cheap and tacky and it wasnt that cheap, i feel like i cannot trust it if it did get repaired, it looks horrible now and i cannot wear it so i feel bare without it. x

I can't believe how you all have been treated! This is really not nice. I feel for all of you and hope you all get yours sorted.

My H2b chose mine and got it from H Samuel - it is lovely and touch wood has lasted so far - it has been in all sorts of liquids and chemicals (yes I keep forgetting to take it off... whooops!). Also, they are going to dip if for me free of charge for the first time - my diamond gets cleaned/checked every year for 10 years, and I get 10% off my wedding rings! They are now making my ring to fit my other and it's going to cost around £200 at most!

thats shocking! to happen at all is really bad but to happen after only 2 months is just not acceptable! i fully agree with lalabunni. it is NOT FIT FOR PRUPOSE! AND YOU SHOULD NOT ACCEPT A REPAIR JOB, ONLY A REPLACEMENT RING OR FULL REFUND!! i got my engagement ring last week from Ernest Jones and am now terrified something happends to mine too. hope you get it replaced hassle free!

    Hiya,

I saw a few comments about crying etc, it wont wash with them, whe we had to take mine back for it to resized (of which we were told would be free, but then tried to charge us) they made me wait another 3 weeks to send it away, and get it back. I was so upset, we got engaged in Thailand at the beginning of our 3 week holiday, it stayed in the safe all that time, you would think they would bend over backward as its not everyday you get engaged, this was not the case, even we we finally got it back I paid to have it resized PROPERLEY at a local jewellers, as it still didnt fit by 3 sizes!!!!! JOKE.
I wrote to the manager of the store, and 6 months later im stillwaiting for a reply..................

Thats terrible, if you get a ring from a place like that, you expect it to last a life time, as that is essentially how long they're supposed to last not a few months! I'm surprised mines lasted though, I've been engaged for 3 months and we haven't got much money so my ring was all of 4.99 from argos! but hope you get everything sorted out, the engagement ring is the first bit of excitement, so I really hope everything goes well for you x
