    Hey,

Might seem like a strange question, when we get married i will be double barreling my surname, as i don't want to loose my own.
After some discussion, we are considering both doing it, as we have said any children will have the double surname.
So is anyone else's H2B going to double barrel their surname so both husband and wife have the same surname.
We've heard of a couple people doing it but wondered if anyone else knows anyone who has done the same or thinking about it for their wedding.
example i am Barclay he is Goulding, so we would both change to Barclay - Goulding.
    thoughts please

i said that i would have liked this as there is noone to carry on our family name (clare) however clare-mooney dosn't have the same ring as barclay-goulding, so in the end we decided agaist it...

ours would be rea ( pronounced ray) - clarke.
not the same ring as barclay - goulding x

We're not ... I'm Guy, he's Nutt ... I've thought about it and they just don't go! Although I may not have to put up with Nutt for long, he's considering changing his surname to his step-dad's (Deller) and secrety I have all my fingers and toes crossed that he will! Deller is SO much better than Nutt!

We're thinking of doing it. We'd be Rans-Hill, which we thought sounded better than Hill-Rans, but we're not entirely sure yet. I worry a little that it might be complicated but I don't want to lose my name either. I like the idea then of the whole family having the same name, like you said any children would then have the same name as both parents.

my h2b stupidly told our 8 yr old she could change her name to blundell-taylor/taylor-blundell, which i am not really happy about as i think it sounds pretentious at that age.

i would consider keeping my surname as me, my h2b, BIL and his vile wife all have the same first initial; M. which gets quite confusing for the MIL and i cant stand it when she calls me maxine! mind you i suppose its better than being called by h2bs ex-wife name whilst i was in labour. xx

Both of our kids are Killgallon-Tilley my surname runs out with me so wo gave our kids a double barreled name to continue my name. Dean also has issues with his family and at one point decided on just taking my name but i convinced him to stick with double barrelling as to keep the same name as our kids

I'm torn between becoming Annelisa Scott or Annelisa Walton-Scott. H2B isnt sure either lol. My mum had the bright idea to have my birth surname instead, but I dont really know where Lorenzini would fit in !! I think she was thinking Annelisa Lorenzini-Walton-Scott! My first names enough of a mouthful so god knows how people would manage with the rest! Parents! You[ve gotta love 'em xx

we are talking about double barrelling and h2b doing the same. He does not want us to have different names (he uses mine all the time anyway as it is easier than his) and I dont want to change mine really and he does not want to change to mine. We would be Lawson-Naisbitt

We're both double barrelling as well- Vyas-Myall (h2b likes this because it would be pronounced "via smile")
Apparently it's really easy as well. When I spoke to the registry, they said the process for changing names is the same for both bride and groom post-wedding. I can't wait to finally officially change my name.

Am I the only one not doing anything like this, lol. Maybe I am just old fashioned but I am taking my h2b surname and can't wait to do so. It is old hat, but I have no problems with this tradition. I have been a Lamont for nearly 32 years and it has been nice but so looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life with my new surname, and to have all our children with the same name is very important to both of us. I understand the many reasons for either keeping your maiden name or double barrelling but I will always know that I was once a Lamont as will all my friends and family, but so excited to be called Mrs Codling! Oooh butterflies, lol. :)

does anyone know what the situation is with regards children changing their surname. our daughter currently has my surname as dad & i weren't together when i registered the birth, but obviously i would like it changed after the event

when my BIL married his wife, i was told that their son had to be adopted by his dad after the wedding, even though he already carried his dads name. is this true, will my h2b have to adopt his own child?

    Confused!!! xxx

No I dont think that's true Marie

I was adopted by my step dad, not because he married my mum, just because they wanted to do that. It meant my mum had to adopt me too strangely enough so she's no longer seen as my biological mum, but my adoptive mum lol

On the name front I, like gregorysgirl, will be happily taking my fiance's name. Looking forward to being Mrs Dunnery but could be a prob if any mail for me goes to MIL2B's house as we own their house and she's Jane so if anything's sent there for me she'd open it thinking it was for her... shouldnt be anything sent there though x

My eldest children from a previous can't be adopted by my h2b as their biological father has to give his permission and if not there has to be statements taken from family members and the kids too to so as to convince the court that they should be adopted etc. But we are having their names changed by deed poll instead so we will all be Codlings in less than 6 months, exciting!! x

im taking my h2bs surname which i am quite happy with. though i have suggested (but only the once), that he take my surname as it's quite unique. it's coulbrook-smith. so i already have a double barrel surname, and can honestly say i have never known of anyone else to have the name. so i just thought it would be nice for him to take my name and to start a new family line of coulbrook-smith's. but there has already been upset on his side with uneccesary name changing (which has upset his dad) so im happy to be colegate, rather excited actually xx
