Yeah sounds like IBS to me. I have it and the doctors have tried all sorts of tablets but tbh it ends up costing a fortune so they told me to have just ibrupohen, not sure how to see it. You can get it over counter and seems to work for me and my sister has just started having it as well as she has to pay for her prescription now!! xx

I have it, mines stress and when I have alcohol, the worst i've ever had it was when I was leaving my daughter to go do a makeup course in Paris it got that bad they didn't think i'd be able to go, there's no cure, or medicine that really works, they gave me lactolose fibregel and these other tablets to try and calm it all have worked but then they stop after a while. The only thing that really ever works is a heat bag =/ mine makes me throw up randomly through the day and have major cramps it took control over my life at one point. I'm worried about the wedding day when I went to hospital they said all these medicines can make it worse and not to take them but sometimes I have to my mil2b does Chinese medicine and apparently that works a fondu massage or something or that needle thing I'd go to doctors and see if it is that because it could be anything don't let them fob you off though as they try x

I would definitely get it checked out with your doctor. I have ibs for years but if you have just started having symptoms then it would be wise to have more serious conditions such as Crohns disease etc ruled out. I am on anti-spasmodics from the doctor which I do feel helps but I know i also have intolerances to some foods which really aggravate my symptoms. I would probably avoid taking such medicines as ibuprofen and aspirin for stomach pain as these medicines are very harsh on the stomach and can make symptoms worse.

Hope you feel better soon xx

i know it sounds stupid - but freshly squeezed lemon in hot water with hunny really helps me, it stops the cramps and redces bloating - i started having every morning for a while, and as soon as i stopped i got the bloating and cramps again xx

I get it occasionally but am able to control it on the whole by watching what i eat. Although i have used peppermint tablets to help ease it at times when it gets really bad as the doctor prescribed colpermin and its no different to that.

Go see your GP. If you feel you have quite a lot to talk about book a double appointment when you call up - that way you have plenty of time to talk about it all, about your concerns and the doctor has enough time to examine you :) I object to the "don't let them fob you off though as they try" comment above! There are good doctors and bad doctors but please don't lump is all into one group and there are actually very few who 'fob' people off deliberately. Diagnosing IBS is partly trial and error, and partly taking a good history, something which is difficult in 7-8 minutes (the average consultation time). Good luck and I hope you feel better soon :)

ps. Try keeping a food and symptom diary - it will help both you and your doctor identify patterns/triggers :)

Try to remain calm - the more worried and stressed i am the worse my IBS gets - I have it quite bad though as it affects my bowel movements quite badly as well as the fact its put me in hospital a couple of times from the pain and swelling.

You just need to moderate the foods and drinks that aggrovate it and relax so that your pain and cramps will be practically non existent if there at all. Besides your GP will have good advice for you if you haven't already seen them :) xxx

It could also be gallstones....i know, weird one to suggest, but i've been having problems as well, so bad that i went to an emergency clinic and they suggested that it could be gallstones!?! which was btter than what NHS direct told me (they said i had a virus and to wait it out) anyways went to the doctor then had an ultrasound done, (unfortunately nothing came up) so im now thinking i have IBS
back to the point, yes see your doctor ask him what it could be :)

I've had it for last 15 years (diagnosed anyhow). I control it mostly through diet - you'll need to find out what works for you by keeping a food diary. My trigger is wheat, so I avoid as much as possible, or carry a combination of immodium and a pile of peppermint tea! That stuff is a god-send.
You'll need to find what works (or doesn't) for you. Everyone's different - some people react well to high fibre diet. Personally, it only agrevates my condition.
Relaxation stuff helps - I'm really highly strung and find it very hard to relax but always feel better after the odd massage and a soak in the bath.
Hope you don't suffer too much. It can take ages to diagnose, and usually only happens after they rule out other nasty stuff.

Write a food diary and see if there are any pattern, I found with me it was more about the time I ate than what it was I was eating. I always make sure I have breakfast, it's true what they say it's the most important meal of the day

Ive had that blood test.. it came back as normal the reading.. they might refer you to a gastroenterologist at your local hospital for a colonoscopy. It might help find out if there are any problems with your bowell and colon. They will either do that or try you on some medication, either Buscopan or Loperamide or Mebeverine... As you can tell, Im speaking from experience! lol x

omg yes i do it can be horrible. Everybody suffers from different foods but the usual triggers are wheat and dairy, stress is a major trigger too!
i'm having to be so careful atm but it is literally trial and error.
ive had all the tests and have been diagnosed with IBS/Suspected Chrons desease.
some ppl only have 1 or 2 triggers but some can have more, i think ive got all of them lol
more common ones are the 2 i mentioned before, m.s.g (takeaways basically) food cooked on charcoal, alcohol (i find vodka one of the worst) oats (unless stated they are gluton free) and spicey foods just to name a few.
and not every1 will suffer from it 365 days of the year it can come and go, i had it as a child up until the age of 5 and then was fine until the age of 18. ask your gp to refer you to a specialist and you will get more results, definately keep a food diary (drs will ask you to do it anyway) try and write how you feel after the things you eat and how quickly it came on and what happened. the more information you write the better.

I've suffered with it for the last few years (on and off) - and the GP did want to do a colonoscopy but being scared to death of needles I finished up refusing. I've been on peppermint tablets (didn't work for me), fibregel mebeverine (great for about a year then didn't work properly) - and I've tried many over the counter things. At the moment I'm on loperamide (4 per day) and they seem to be working great.

Stress brings it on for me - as well as diet. If I eat a lot of junk food it's at it's worst. I've noticed that different things that I eat and drink change over time though (I couldn't drink coffee for ages, now I can - and pizza used to set it off but now I can eat it, but other things I could eat now irritate it). My dad suffers as well - but he has cramps, I have cramps and full blown upset stomach (sorry for being graphic but sometimes upto 6 times a day at the loo lol).

IBS is different for everyone though - and it's just trial and error and keeping a record of what you eat/drink and if it has an effect (maybe a pattern every time you eat/drink a certain something??)

good luck with managing it hun as it is very diet dependant and takes a bit of working out what aggravates it and stuff. Plus stress adds to it so if you can avoid stressful stuff (easy to say when my wedding is far away!) then do so as this will help too! xxx

I haven't read all the posts so it might if already been suggested but when I was diagnosed with ibs I done a food diary and always noted down when the cramps and toilet trouble would start. I soon vigured out what ws triggering it and cut it out of my diet and the symptoms have pretty much gone. I am fine all through the day and night until very first thing on the morning I need the loo and it's not very nice (sorry probably tmi lol) but otherwise I'm fine now. Dairy was a huge problem with me and anything greasy! Stress is another trigger so try keep your stress levels down. Hope your better soon hen xx
