Hi...am having a 3 course sit down for everyone plus wedding cake and am thinking it may not be necessary to have an evening buffet? What do you think? If the ceremony is at 2.30, then when would we sit down....6ish? Won't everyone be full and not want to eat again at like 10pm. Party finishes at 11.

but you know what people are like once they get a drink in them, well my grubber lot anyway lol!
I would say so yeah, are you having evening guests that wont be there during the day?xx
CommentAuthorMrs-West-2B
It all depends on how many evening guests you are having i think.. We are getting married at 3 then having a 3 course meal and an evening buffet aswel because we are having another 100 + evening guests so its more for them really xx

we get married at either 3 or 3.30 not quite sure and we are having canapes at drink reception, 4 course meal and buffet at night :) I think everyone expects food when they have been invited to a party of any sort. I know I would expect to be fed after spending money on an outfit, a gift, getting there, drink etc :) just my opinion though xx

We are not finishing ours until about 7.30 so I'm just having a small buffet to nibble on later rather than a full spread and using the money (have to cater for 100%) we would have spent on lots of food for canapes earlier on in the day when guests will need it more. I think its always a good idea to give them something to soak up the alcohol but you don't need vast amounts of food as you wouldn't normally eat much after a 3 course meal. It depends too if you are having extras on the night as if you are you need to inform them that there isn't a buffet if you decide against it.
We're getting married at 2.45pm, having a 3 course meal at 5pm - but we're not bothering with an evening buffet as we're not having any extra guests just coming for the evening. Maybe if you've got a lot more guests in the evening then a buffet would probably be a good idea, maybe about 8-8.30pm ish.

If your having extra guest to the evening then yes you will certainly need to out on an evening buffet. If not then just a small selections of nibbles will be enough x

I'm having a rolling buffet as we are getting wed at 3.30, an hour for our ceremony 45-50 mins for photos by time we get to the venue it'll be quater to 6 and the disco is starting at 7.30 so by time we've had speeches and what not sat down and eaten i think its better just having a buffet that goes through the night instead of a sit down meal especially as we have more guests coming in the evening xx

well no..if ur not gettin married til 2.30 (which is the time i got married) Give it ..45 mins at least for ceremony..then time for ur photos etc...sit down meals tend to start about 5ish and last about 1.5 - 2 hours which would be 7...then u get that half an hour to speak to people whilst they set up for reception.....and then buffet is usually served about 9.30ish! well that is how it went for me and i had same ceremony time as u x

I'd just do a pie and peas or something like that. I understand that you'l all be pretty full, but it's nice to have a supper.

We're having sausage and bacon butties at the evening reception. I'm having about 60 during the day then another 60 for just evening. We looked into buffet but it was so pricey for a ton of stuff we wouldnt eat. Bacon and sausage butties are only £3.95ph so i cant complain.

We're having an evening buffet but that's because we're having an extra 100 guests at night. We're getting married around 2-2.30pm and the meal won't finish till later on but we need to feed our evening guests. I'm having bacon rolls, sausage rolls, scrambled egg rolls and our wedding cake. xxx
*I meant to add that we're having a four course meal so most of my day guests will be full but I've decided not to cater for 100% of them*
CommentAuthorSoon2BBlackwell
Isn't it usually the rule with a buffet that you cater for 2/3 of the total no. of guests.

We get married at 3 having a sit down 3 course meal with the wedding cake as dessert at half 5. So instead of a buffet we are having bacon rolls in the evening at 9-9.30 (h2b wanted mini fish n chips) and just letting our evening guests this is the only food so maybe eat before they come.

NHR115, It doesnt surprise me some places do that! The amount of food wasted in those places must be insane.
I worked in a hotel for a few years and once worked a wedding that didnt have an evening buffet, they had hot pork sandwiches served at midnight for the guests to eat on the way home. It seemed to go down really well with the guests. Not sure how many venues will keep the kitchen open to serve at midnight though...

we're planning to have a delievery of southern fried chicken from our local outlet [we're having our recption in a field, so no cscary venue kitchen for us!] for our evening guests, and our day guests. Our Wedding Breakfast is either going to be the same, or a hog roast type thing. This way, we can continue to have the hog roast into the eveing; both sets of gusts can have either. We're also planning on having big spread of salads, potatoes, breads, cheeses etc and let people help themselves. <3 x
