    Hi there,
I was just wondering if I actually need a chief bridesmaid? Ideally I should ask my sister but she is very unreliable as well as my best friend so I am in a bit of a sticky situation. Is it essential to have one or just ask everyone to help out?

Umm you don't necessarily have to have a chief bridesmaid or even a BM at all.

I originally wasn't going to have a BM at all I was going to make use of one of H2Bs groomsmen lol. But then H2Bs little sister decided to mature a bit more so in the end I asked her. I'd still be quite happy not to have one though if she decided she didn't want to do it in the end.

You don't need one at all hun.

Also, if you are expecting they perform certain tasks, you need to make it clear - a lot of people think that it's just finding a nice dress and turning up on the day, whereas the bride has other ideas...

My moh is my best friend since primary school - all she's done is be there for wedding chat, which is all I asked of her...I'm sure if I wanted her to come to dress fittings etc she would have done but personally I'm not one for 'bridesmaid duties' - I kinda think it should be the people you care about most, not who will be better at organising things, most reliable etc...

    Xx

You don't need one, I would do whatever feels best. TBH I'm not a big fan of bridesmaids duties either. I feel like if they want to help great but if they don't want to help that's fine too. That said a chief bridesmaid is supposed to be your go to girl for help and the other ladies are expected to be there for you on the day. So if you've got someone that's going to put the work in they should get the title.

We had two adult bridesmaids, and four groomsmen, but no chief BM or Usher. We didn't have 'roles' that each person was expected to play, so it worked well for us.

My MOH was obvious, as she is my closet friend, and would manage to make an amazing wedding day happen even if the church or hotel was destroyed the day before. My friend's wedding was hit by snow, and might not have happened, but Gauri pulled it off. If you google Rachel Milestone John Ross McAdorey wedding the online news stories are probably still around. Rachel is her best friend and I've asked her to share the role, as they make an amazing team. I don't have a sister, the others, apart from H2Bs sister, are Gauri's children and the children of family friends.Along with my mum and her sister, who were brilliant getting everything done for my brother's wedding, I have an amazing team.

I have 2 BMs (my elder sisters) and my future niece as FG, but no cheif bridesmaid or MOH, my Mam is the one coming dress hunting, and duties are being shared amongst my friends so everyone gets a little bit involved :) so you dont need a MOH really :) xxx

My SiL is my MOH, but I doubt I'm going to be asking her to do anything.. I have the perfect team in me, my mum and H2B.. I'm not having bridesmaids as it saves a lot of hassle and money as I have a lot of girl cousins.. xxx

You don't have to have one. Most girls do because they have that one really special person they want to make more important than the other BM's but they also have to take on more responsibility!
