I made our wedding invites myself.. just very simple ones. I bought some card from Staples and ran out so got extra from Wilkinsons and then just got h2b to help me design it in Photoshop.
If you Google search you can find some good templates you can download and use.

Hi, I've made them before for friends, it's quite easy. I brought most of the stuff from ebay, I hunted for free templates on google, found loads. I have ordered only yesterday a cd rom from ebay with templates, ideas etc on making your own stationary, table numbers, place cards etc. I have also made Table planners in the past and they too are surprisingly easy, again I just searched for free templates and found loads with instructions. They don't need to look tacky, just pinch ideas from different sites and they will look really tasteful and proffessional. If anyone would like any templates I have some for inserts, table planner etc, just email me and I will happily share them with you ;o)

hi guys,i took your advice a had a look at hobbycraft today for cards etc ..i looked on the back of one of the packs and found a web address of where the cards are made. i've just looked at their web site and they are much cheaper to buy direct from them example : 80 cards and envelopes at hobbycraft =30.24 on the web site the same 80 cards and envelopes =20.92. the web site is www.craftcreations.com.. have a look well worth it xxx

staples do a cutting service if u were to buy huge sheets of card for a few pence each big sheet!

Find someone with good handwriting,(or hire someone professional to do it for you) and stick some little diamante's/other embellishments you want on.. I'm planning on keeping it simple & classy. Too much is just tacky. =) X

    Hi there,

Try ***************** and *************8 as they have a good selection of wedding embellishments eg two gold rings entwined, hearts and flowers, etc. Also they show you examples of made invitations using their supplies which gives you an idea what they will look like. They arent expensive either.

I have my parents next door neighbour helping to print the inserts of the invitations, we are getting free card, paper and envelopes from my partners aunt and uncle who have their own card and gift shop so all we need to buy are the embellishments to add to them.

Good luck to all that are making their own invitations.

    June x

Hey girls. I just designed my invites and menus/place cards etc myself. Microsoft have templates you can download and clipart. I got a lovely one with butterflies and flowers and used that as the background with the template on top. Was easier than I thought - mine was in word and publisher format which are both really easy to use if your familiar with microsoft office. You know youre downloading something safe too - I tried a few others but had great difficulty trying to edit them as most were read only files. Have 2 invites to an A4 sheet of card and just going to use guillotine to cut them in half.

(Yes, we didn't learn how to proof read after the 2nd print out!). Anyway, photos are on my page now if you wanna check them out, and feel free to comment! :)

I am making my own and just did 2 tonight, very pleased with them and gives me such a proud feeling to know that I have made them myself! I spent £17 on card, envelopes, ribbon, badges and vintage patterned paper from Downtown. Might take a little while to finish them all but it is great fun and a great money saver as ones I have looked at on the internet are about £3 each! Definitely go for it! xx

I want to make mine but for my simple idea it is surprisingly expensive. I just wanted a piece of teal card and a piece of silver paper held together with teal ribbon and printed on the silver paper at home. I've looked for the card in shops and it's so expensive. Have found some on ebay though so may try that.

i made mine.... going to put pics up in a bit. there fab. did cost 92 for 80 odd but there will be enough craft left overs to make the oos so bargin really. i got my stuff from the hooby of craft shop. I must admit there not as cheap as they first seem to be and in the shops there supply of stuff is stupid they have like 4 of everything and thats it and it can take 4 weeks to get it in. Same with card stock. they have loads of it but not enough envelopes to go with every bit. not really doing them justice here am i lol

Im planning on making my own save the dates and invites.
Save the dates are just blank postcards with save the date written on one side then our names and the date on the other.
Invites are going to be just folded card with a ribbled rectangle in one of our colours then a smaller rectangle in the other one with a stamp on the front. Need lots of card as putting the 'give us money not a toaster' poem, the menu for the meal, an invite to the celebration party the weekend after and if the registry office don't update their website to the right address before then directions to the registry office all inside the envelope.
Not sure where going to buy card etc from as don't drive and the only craft shop in town just gave the impression of 'get out of my shop you are not a real crafter just a dabbler'

    Hey lovelies!

Just bringing this one back to the front page and asking if anyone else has made their own and if they have pics up, I have made pocketfold templates and they aren't 100% straight.

I cant decide if this is a nice touch because they are home made and I have tried, or if it is doing my head in and I want to buy new ones (which will essentially cost me double and defeat the entire object lol)

I'm in the process of making mine, i bought navy blue cranford card and ivory cranford paper from Hobbycraft along with some small bows and washi tape to finish, then bought lace doilies for a laser cut effect. I've designed my own wedding invite inserts in photoshop (censored version on my wall) and will stick them on navy card and decorate.

Tbh i think hand made invitations are lovely, I definitely wouldn't go out and buy more just because they're a little wonky! I understand how you feel about wanting them perfect but it's so unlikely that they'll be perfect if handmade - there's so many to do!

It could be wonky because of the glue and card you use, if your using a glue that is thinner and more of a liquid it the card might move as you stick pieces to it, I always wait till the glue is slightly tacky before I stick things down :)
