Hi, I am having my first wedding dress fitting in 4 weeks.
I am paying £145 for all alterations that are needed and £25 for storage. Do you think this about right, or too pricey? My mom thinks that it is a bit too much and that her friend can do them for half the price, I don't feel comfortable taking my dress out of the shop for alterations because if the shop messes up they can replace it and if my moms friend messes it up, I'm screwed basically. So i have told her NO the shop will be doing the alterations.
Out of curiosity how much are you guys paying?

I havent got my dress yet but I have been looking :) I have been in 2 shops so far and both of them have said alterations prices vary but the top whack I would pay is £180 so that sounds about right to me :) I guess it also depends where you live! I live in Croydon (South London) and my friend lives in Wales and things are costing a lot more for me than they have done for her x

I was quoted £150 - that was to take off 7 inches and to take it in 2 around the body. But my sister ended up doing it for free. There was no way I was going to pay that when i only pad £199 for the dress in the sale in the first place LOL!
Vegas baby!

They are expensive, generally I've been given costs of between £150-£200 for alterations. x

How can they quote you for alterations when they don't know what you need? I had 1.5 inches taken off the hem of my organza and silk skirt, and 1.5 inches off each side of my bust which meant tidying up the bodice and lace overlay - cost 60 total and that was through the bridal shop...

When I've tried on dresses, I ask how much alterations would be worst case scenario i.e. everything doing, sides, hem etc. so I know what the max cost would be xx

This is WAY too pricey! Try and get the name of the seamstress who will be doing the work, and go to her directly.mwe only found out by accident, when liz bought her dress off the bay and I immediately rang our nearest bridal shop to ask if she would dothe alterations (She told us it would be £100+). She said no, but would give us the name of the girl she uses. I called, her up. Price? £45!
The mark p is horrendous luvvie! Save pennies were you can! Truly.

I paid £35 for all my alterations which included quite a lot off the length, extra strap connectors and a loop hole.. which i thought was a pretty good price, i was expecting alot more!! I would say your quote is way too pricey hun, why dont you ring around before deciding? xx

My dress fits me almost perfectly, the straps will need alternating as I have funny shoulders, straps never stay up including bra straps. I am hoping it won't cost much as the dress is costing more then we budgeted for. Am thinking of getting OH aunt to alternate it as she is making bridesmaids dresses and was seamstress.

Taking my dress to an independant seamstress today, she is taking up the hem, removing some of the boning, and adding a bustle....£50....
(I might even ask her about adding an invisible side zip)
It grieves me to even pay that, and that is actually a pretty reasonable price, but when I can sew myself it seems silly to pay someone else to do it, but I am all sewed out......and I need to be properly measured for the hem length, and no-one seems to know how to do it right.
