I am quite confused! My H2B lives in Leicestershire and I live in Essex, but we plan to marry in Essex. Do we both register in Essex, or do we register at our local offices?
If we have to register at our local office, how does that work for finding a venue, do we have to live in the same district?
I think I'm overthinking all this, but have heard different advice from different people and am quite confused!

If you live together, do it in that district, if you live apart do it at the separate offices..
We live in Worcester but are getting married in Lancaster. H2B livves mostly in Brize Norton so he could register there haha!
We registered in worcester anyway.. xx

Unfortunately due to work, he lives in Leicester and I still live near Basildon... So I should register down here and he should register in Leicester? And it would be fine for us to marry in Essex still?
It's all very complicated when you don't live together in more ways than just this :(
CommentAuthorMrs van der Lee
Yep - register in your respective towns and as long as they are aware you are doing so then it's fine.. when you get your marriage certificate just give it to the registrar who is marrying you :) xx

You both go to your local office, and then you will need to send your certificate to the office in the area in which you want to marry after you have given notice. We are marrying in a different area in which we live x x
The H2B & I both live in London so we should register in London but are getting married in Cornwall So do we need to get a wedding license to marry in Cornwall?? ♥ X =D

No. Register in London and take your certificate to Cornwall when you meet with your registrar.
Remember you can only register up to 12 months before the big day.

If you register in London and then after you have given notice you go back to get a certificate or papers and then send them to the register office in Cornwall after you have booked a Cornish registrar to marry you x x

Marrying a foreigner, we both have to register and marry at a specific office, which sucks as it is MILES away from where we'll be based :( (Still, at least we can hold personal ceremony elsewhere, even if it's not techniclly THE wedding...) Is it right that you can only register up until 16 days before you wed?
CommentAuthorAmyP7
Yeah there is a time limit, well we had to register in our home town and then get the paper work to venues area, so I don't know then x x

Kelly I am sure you have been told incorrect info I would double check x

if i were you i would ask you r registry office for advice as they will have all the right information and you wont get confused! i think it is that if you live somewhere different to where you want to get married then you have to register and give notice in both places but you need to ask the registry office to make sure xxxx

I have just found this on a search engine which is a local register office website:
Remember if you are marrying in Lancashire but do not live in the area you will need to give Notice of Marriage in the area where you live and then collect your authorities (blue documents) from that office and hand them to the Register Office that is dealing with your marriage as early as possible before the date of your wedding.
Finally marrying the love of my life !!

We both live in the same area, but marrying in a different one. We have to give notice at our local registry office and book the registrar at the one for the area we are marrying.. xx

hubby and I got married where I live so we booked our day with my resgistry office and then I had to go in and give notice and answer the questions and he had to do the same where he lives. We were lucky and my sister was the registrar that married us. She told us to book them first to check we could get the date we wanted which we did then we gave notice afterwards.....

Maybe it's different in different areas then, I've just rang my office and they've definitely just told me I have to go through Scunthorpe as they serve my venue...

We both live in the same area so we gave notice there but we are getting married somewhere else so 6 weeks before the wedding we will have to meet up with the registar to hand over the documents and also everything else as we got a marriage pack sent through the post.
Cant wait until I become Mrs K

We got married in Weybridge, Surrey ... booked the registrar there in May. I gave notice in Milton Keynes, Bucks in September and hubby gave notice in Swansea in October. We got the certificate and sent it to the Weybridge registrar's office. xx
