Hi my dress has ended up rather dirty after the big day, i am looking at dry cleaners and boxing the dress to keep at a cost of approx £180 there are various companies you can take it to send it off to but on a search engine there are posts to say put it in the bath in water to clean gentle scrub of the dirty area's and then put it in a douvet cover and on a gentle cool wash in the washer with good effects what does everyone think about that any help tips advice greatly appreciated

I personally don't think that i would risk it.I suppose it would depend on your dress ie how much detailing, sequins, diamontes, beading etc it has. Also to take into consideration is what fabric it is made of as the majority of wedding dresses are made of delicate fabrics that don't wash well. Then there is the sheer bulk of most dresses,i have a large capacity washing machine and i am pretty sure i couldn't cram my dress into it.Just say that despite all of that the dress held up fine in the washer how on earth would you dry it.would you put it in the dryer with all that net??? Finally i don't know about you but i wouldn't even know where to start ironing it?
All that considered i think this is one job most definitely left to the proffesionals xxx

i wouldnt risk it personally. It is a gamble and you dont know if any beading work etc will be affected.

I got mine cleaned BEFORE the wedding in Vegas and because of all the detailing and beading it cost $125 rather than the $90 I was originally quoted. However, it was still a whole load cheaper than getting it done over here. the cheapest quote I've had so far is from a company based in Southamton - they would come and pick it up and deliver it back and I was quoted £130 with my PU discount :) Even so, the dress only cost me £199 as it was on sale, so I think i'm just going to get it cut up and framed and made into cushion covers and save the dry cleaning bill!

Be careful a well known company were going to charge my SIL £180 to have her dress cleaned we then went to get a price from another company and they told her that it had not to be dry cleaned at all and it was to be wet washed, it was going to cost £75 to do this but they told her to put it in a wool wash with a certain washing powder and then hang it on the line with a coat hanger or in the shower to dry straight away. The dress had lots of beads and details and has come out as new. So my advice would be to check the labels x

It's great to say i get married this year September 1st 2012

my sister works in a dry cleaners at the supermarket with the big m and i know they regularly dry clean wedding dresses though not the ones from china I'm seeing her tomorrow and would happily ask her what sort of price you would be looking at they are usually all about the same price.

I took my wedding dress to the dry cleaners, its a Hollywood Dreams 100% silk, it has a mark on the skirt and they told me they could blow cold water through it but couldnt guarantee the material not to go into holes because it is so fine. Im more gutted because I havent actually worn it yet and still cant work out how ive managed to get a mark on it (looks like coffee). Just be careful - id hate you to spoil your dress x

Looking 4ward to being Mrs Greaves, proud to call him mine x

I don't generally believe in handwashing or dry cleaning and put everything inside duvet covers/ pillow cases on handwashing cycle and I've never had a problem yet BUT don't think id take that risk with the wedding dress! Got a voucher amongst stuff from a wedding fair locally for £99 for dress cleaning, am sure you could probably find some bargains and special offers if you look for them. Independent cleaners may even be up for a bit of haggling... X
