OMG I just had a little browse at the cost for a civil ceremony cost in the area that we want and its £408 for a sat and £508 for a sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was due to get married to my ex 2 years ago and it was £150 in the same area! How on earth can they justify raising it that much?!?!?!?!?!?

Going to have to rebudget now!!!!!!! :( x

It costs a small fortune, although I think it is cheaper if you get married at the registry office rather than having a registrar come out to you.

ours is £350 for the registrar, and then giving notice on top of that was almost £100 I think, can't remember now, but we are in the Nottm area xx

    Yep it's bloody expensive!!
Mine was £400 midweek Inc 2 certificates because apparently they need 2 registrars. I wish I could split £400 with a mate for 30 minutes of work... Plus another £70 for the notice

    I think its utterly ridiculously!

I saw on friends and big band theory that people can be ordained on the internet lol - is this something that i could do (well not me as that would be weird but a family member or something?)

our church is £450 including the banns and then £34 to have them read at another church the registrar in our area was nearly £1000 if you include the room hire for the hotel so it was a lot cheaper to do it in a church and hire a car

The church fees vary by the parish so cant negotiate on them but alot of money. However even if it was double the price i would still pay and get married there as very important to us !

It is ridiculous how much they charge to send a registrar out. We're getting married in the registry office in Liverpool (which happens to be a beautiful building anyway) £160 for the day including certificate, and our notice fees were £35 each.

I think we have stumbled across ridiculous prices... we're getting married on a Sunday which raises the price anyway but turns out it is also a Bank Hol so thats upped it even more! Think it comes to just under £500 and thats not including the £35 each for notice fees!

We had a church wedding on a Sunday and the cost of the service, licence, banns etc wasn't any more expensive depending on day of the week - the variables were bell ringers and choir as this depends on people's availability...

It may be because you want a weekend. Also, summer will be more expensive too, if you are going for wedding season (April, if I'm calculating correctly?)

Well this is also news for me!!! We have talked about getting married at the town hall the day before, as we are having a blassesing at an onsite chapel (which isn't licenced for weddings!) It would be £600 to get it done the same day, before the blessing, or £100 the day before! No brainer in my opinion, i had already decided on two dresses!

We've paid £150 to hold the ceremony at the hotel, then £350 for registrar plus £67 notice fees for a Friday wedding in peak season. It would have cost about £180 plus notice fees if we'd have chosen to do it at the registry office.

the costs just keep going up. Because we've chose to have a civil ceremony at our reception venue, we've got to pay £350 for the room hire then it's £360 on top for the registrar to attend. We've already paid the £33.50 each. It would've been much cheaper to do it at the register office x

It's outrageous really, and I do think some venues should make this a bit clearer. We are paying 550 for a Friday wedding...about 200 more than we would if we had it in the registry office....which is about five doors down from our venue!

It's ridiculous how it all mounts up

We are paying £450 - but that is for Good Friday and £350 for the room at the venue, originally the plan was to have the very basic ceremony but considering the cost we are adding readings now too - may as well get our moneys worth and make it last as long as possible!

Like SarahB43 it's mad to see how the cost varies depending on which area your in!

its bad really if u think how long the ceremony lasts! ours was 35 each for the notice, then about 350 for the registrar and 150 to our venue towards the cost of his licence, so in all 570 plus we need about 6 punds for the certificate i think! although i do have things in my budget which cost more but it is still a bit steep, ll that just to make it legal! lol

Ours is just under £500 for two registrars, the fees etc. I thought that was so expensive but reading this seems that its around the same as others. Our venue have been brilliant though and everything (including room hire for the ceremony) was offered to us in a package deal which was really cheap. x
