I am getting married in 2014. But i was wondering, for a church wedding, do you pay upfront or do you pay on the day of the ceremony being taken.

We are getting married in a church and we paid in installments over a long period of time, our church wanted it all paid off by 8 weeks before which we have already done now. Hope that helps. xx

We are getting married in a church and have so far only paid the deposit, I think we will have to pay the remainder before hand.

I think every church is different. I've booked mine for May 2013 and was told they won't take a penny (not even a deposit) until the rehearsal, which will most likely be the night before the wedding.
We booked our ceremony a year ago, but the church don't want payment until the rehearsal which is a week before. We live in a different area to the church though so had to have our banns read at our local church, that we had to pay up front when we contacted them last year.

I am getting married in August 2014 and my church dont want anything until the week before. Just a warning though, if you are marrying in a CofE church, as of april next year their prices are being reviewed and changed. So anyone marrying after that, be prepared that it could cost more than you think. Our vicar told us this when we asked about a price, as until that has happened he doesnt know how much it is going to cost, but he warned us that there are whispers that it wont be getting any cheaper! xxx

Our church is booked but we need to meet the Minister. It's all done through H2B's family as his dad is a church elder so I'm not sure what we're meant to do!

Its going to be about £700 to marry in a church in 2014 you can find the fees on the CofE website! x
CommentAuthorKellyN29
£700 is steep, thats double the current price, however our vicar lets you pay in installments upto the rehersal

looked it up it will not be £700 in CofE: Church wedding fees in 2013/14
After a period of review, church wedding fees are due to rise from January 2013 if Parliament approves the changes.
All that is legally required for your church wedding should cost less than £460 for two years from January 2013, although you may choose to have extras.
The new basic legal fee is due to rise to £406 in 2013 and in line with inflation, to £417 in 2014. This would include the cost of the Vicar, the church, calling your banns, the marriage certificate, lighting and all administration.
If you're marrying in 2013 or 2014, the new legal (statutory) fees, if approved, will apply to you, even if you arranged your wedding in a year when a different fee applied.
If either of you live in a different parish from where your wedding will be, by law the local church will need to read your banns too, for which you will also require a banns certificate, bringing the statutory fee for you to £440 in 2013 or £451 in 2014.

We're getting married in a CofI church, and all we have to pay is the orgainist and caretaker, as we are members of the congregation. We haven't been asked for a deposit or anything yet, we will be giving a donation to the church as an extra however :)
CommentAuthorLinzi-jo
We are members of the congregation too, however we still have to pay for legal fees. I would re check if I were you Roxy, because the fees mentioned above should be payed by everyone getting married in a CofE church xxx

We paid the registrars fees up front, and we pay everything else at the rehearsal.
