Ok, I have a pickle - I'm Chinese and my fiance is not, and the day of the wedding we're having a Western wedding with an Asian twist - church wedding, fancy reception with an Anglo/Asian menu and we're going the chinese wedding tea ceremony with both sets of parents before the speeches etc. The night before, we're hosting a big meal in a Chinese restaurant for friends and family, which is hopefully going to enable guests to meet and mingle before the wedding, and also give a nod to my heritage - I'm toying with the idea of wearing a traditional Chinese red wedding outfit and the H2B in a chinese Bruce Lee style outfit, which he is more than happy to do - thing is, I'm not your traditional stick thin, flat chested Chinese girl, and am a comfortable size 16 with HH top. So, the question is, should I wear anything Chinese as there's a risk it could be a bit frumpy if I'm so curvy? I have an aunt in China who's offered to buy an outfit locally if I send her ideas, colours and size etc but I'm not sure if we'll just look ridiculous or if we should just dress up for a fancy night out and go to the meal that way? Arghhh what to do!

I agree with Hails, try it out first and if you like it then go for it!

Just in case though, is there no way to incorporate the two fashions together? Your fiance could still wear the suit but maybe give your Chinese dress a bit of a western twist?

What about having a dress made to suit your figure in the same material? I think the Chinese dresses are beautiful, but you still want to look your best. I think your mixture of traditions sounds lovely x

A friend is in the same situation so she is having a traditional western style wedding dress in a traditional Chinese wedding dress fabric. It's the same pattern fabric that all of the ladies in her family have had for many generations too.

I love the idea as the girls said of mixing the two styles.... maybe you could have the material sent over and made into a dress here? or send them the pattern....

hope you don't mind and had a wee look on google just to get some ideas...

Have you seen the Alfred angelo dress that has the coloured section at the back down the traing and the rest is ivory or white cos you could get that made with Chinese material there, then you've got your Anglo Asian mix I'm a dress that you would look amazing in

Have decided to go for it, and am ordering this at the end of the month - it's only £40 including shipping so I figure if it arrives and I don't like it we have time to figure out plan B!

@bridalmiss I'm half Chinese and looking to incorporate more Chinese touches into my wedding. Could you please post me some links on my wall of any interesting sites you found for red dresses? I think I'll change for the evening.

Your gown looks amazing and for £40, you can't go wrong!
