    Hi Ladies,

I have a rather unusual anxiety - i hate the thought of being centre of attention!

I got all red and flustered at my daughters naming day when i looked up whilst i was holding her and suddenly there were cameras everywhere!

I'm not having a huge wedding just friends and family - have specifically chosen my little girl to be flower girl to hopefully draw the attention away from me. I'm really excited about the day but not sure how to calm my nerves and stop myself from going bright red and spoiling all the photos!

Also really anxious about trying dresses on - worried about what people will think. Don't want H2B and guests thinking i look ridiculous - so am thinking just a straight forward simple dress.

    Any advice greatly appreciated x

I hate being centre of attention - but being a bride means you have to be. This is what it was like for me:
During the ceremony, when you walk down the aisle, just concentrate walking towards your h2b. During the ceremony, you'll be concentrating on listening to the vicar/registrar to really notice everyone else.
When you sign the register, just make little conversation or have a laugh with your hubby and witnesses to make the moment lighter and go quicker.
When you walk back down the aisle, talk to your hubby, or look for certain faces in the guests to concentrate on.

The next thing I wish I had given proper thought to was our 1st dance. We chose a song we both love, but it has a slow beginning. For 2 people who don't like being centre of attention, it felt like it lasted forever - so just take that into consideration. Make sure the bestman gets everyone joining you on the dancefloor sooner rather than later.

That is the advice I have.

As for your dress. If you think you look amazing in it, then so will everyone else. If your still not sure, ask your mum's or best friends honest opinion.

I have the same problem :( I've gone for a bright bouquet of pink, yellow and purple flowers with plenty of foliage (our wedding colour is green). Our flower lady was a little dubious saying that that would steel peoples attention away from me and the dress, I had to point out that that was the idea!!

There are many things you can do to make yourself more at ease

Make sure you're feeling as comfortable as possible in everything you're wearing
Have everyone prepped to come and join you on the floor half way through your first dance
Limit the amount of posed group photos, as these tend to have people standing around near by and watching
Take a couple of breathers during the day where you just disappear off by yourself for 15 mins
and stick next to your new husband all day so you can hide behind him!!

Ah yes, in the months running up to our big day I suddenly started feeling like I might get an attack of stage fright with just over 100 guests. I decided to just look straight ahead walking down the aisle and thought our 3 year old FG (our niece) might distract people. However on the day, I felt so relaxed about it all and loved every second, it's like being a celebrity for the day. In the car on the way to the church I had groups of people in the street clapping as they saw us drive past and when my dad and I arrived at the church I had an audience of general public passers by who had stopped to watch me get out of the car and walk into the church, it was bizarre but I think because it was my wedding day and I was about to get married I don't think crowds of strangers outside and all our friends and family in the church all looking at me really bothered me in the end.

When you're the bride you have to expect to be the centre of attention I'm afraid.

Sometimes it's a case of confidence which is why you may not like it. Don't worry about what others will think of you in your dress, when you try on the one, it'll feel so perfect that you feel gorgeous and like a princess. If you love it that'll shine through and everyone else will love it and think you look stunning xx

I'm the same, I'm the sort of person that would quite happily sit in the background and listen to others in like a pub or something, I hate being the centre of attention I like to hide away so I'm going to be really nervous on my wedding day knowing everyone is going to be looking at me an hopefully complimenting me, I don't do well with compliments either lol.

I think I might have to have a few drinks to bring out the slightly more confident me! Or just grin and bare it!

    Sorry to hear you're nervous!

Have you considered walking down the aisle with H2B so that it's not just you but "YOU" (pl) that is the centre of attention so you don't feel too badly stared at as an individual?

You're doing the right thing keeping it small with the people you know well and love... You will be fine though! You'll probably be too nervous about your vows etc to worry about the staring! x

I blush very easily so am worried about turning bright red during the service.
Try Bach's rescue remedy, it is amazing and I will be taking on the day to relax me x

    Thank you ladies.

It's rather reassuring that it isn't just me, yes i think a glass of something bubbly whilst getting ready and make up to hide the blushes - hopefully my gorgeous little flower girl will distract!

Now have to get over the hurdle of wedding dress shopping this weekend! eeek!

You will get over the hurdle of wedding dress shopping. I was dreading it and ended up loving it even those dresses that didn't suit. The whole experience made me feel very special. Good luck and let us know how you get on x

If you're nervous you can always just focus on your groom and pretend that he and your officiant are the only ones there.

I don't like being the centre of attention either so I'm dreading the first dance but we do still want all the traditional components of the wedding in place... We went to a wedding on Saturday and they didn't have speeches, cake cutting or the first dance because they are both so shy but each to their own, it felt really weird not hearing speeches or witnessing the first dance x
