After going to a wedding fair last sunday Ive decided that I like the idea of either hiring a candy cart or having a sweet table!
Ive priced candy cart hire at, £150 which caters 50guests with a choice of upto 10 sweets or £275 which caters 10 guests with a choice of upto 14 sweets.
The prices include the use of jars/containers, tongs and scoops, candy bags...
Do you think its worth hiring the cart or trying DIY sweet table?

I'm doing a sweetie bar myself, going to get all the sweets and things from makro and just buy some cheap glass vases and bowls and maybe decorate them. Thinking about getting some little bags too and decorating them
I must be crazy giving myself only 6 months!

I think that's a hell of a lot of money...
I had planned a candy buffet and would have done it this way:
Buy an old table for less than a few pounds in a charity shop, cover with nice fabric (cheap via bay of e), collect various different jars over the months - at car boot sales, jam we eat, ebay etc., etc., fill them with retro sweets which you can get in sweet shops or online for a reasonable price. I would have then made little flags or lables with a retro font (easily downloadable) to show what is what.
BUT sadly we have decided against it because I have a 3 year old son who would not touch any other food until the very last sweet is gone. And I don't want to argue on my wedding day with him or shout at him all the time because ge's totally hyper from all the sugar. Several of my mummy friends who will be there with their toddlers would also not appreciate hyper children.

Im making my own, bought 10 different sized jars from ikea for about a tenner, n ordered the metal scoops and paper bags from the bay of e, which werent expensive either. I'm going to make little tags for each and put a sweetie/ candy poem in a picture frame! I will buy the sweets closer the time. Oh I also have a large Bertie Bassett figure to put on the table too. It's defo cheaper to DIY

We did our own and everyone loved it, if you google it and look at websites you can copy the layouts of a really fancy one copying expensive companies designs very easily. We got jars from supermarkets and our theme was red/hearts so tied ribbons on from ebay and made my own jar labels online copying a template for sweet jars. I used tall plastic wine glasses (lots of kids going) and plastic bowls. Got a white wooden 'love' sign with diamantes and ribbons quite cheaply and put a message inside a heart shaped frame from us both.
Was so popular I even spied people helping themselves during the sit down meal! hehe. Bought cheap striped red paper bags off the net and did personalised labels on them. We had 90ish including evening not sure we spent much beyond £70 if that. Its nice to have companies do things for you but the both of us really enjoyed picking our own sweets and my husband set it up on the morning of the wedding which didn't take long. Venue provided a table.

We are doing a sweet buffet instead of favours, its costing us £1.75 per person which is a lot cheaper than buying favours i orignally wanted, it includes everything bags scoops the lot.

I likr the idea but still not decided whether to have one If we do we would do it ourselves as you can choose exactly what you want and its bound to be cheaper
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

I'm doing my own aswell. It's working out loads cheaper! I've bought 12 different sweet jars/vases (some posh big ones in the shape of wine glasses etc) and sweets from macro.

I will be doing my own too. I have got plenty of vases etc to use and I am not fussed if they get broken etc then will just decorate the table with lots of little crafty detaily bits to make it "wow" and have all my fave sweets. I am going to get bags etc of the bay to match my colour scheme, then personalise them.
I had thought about it instead of a wedding favour but have now decided that I want to do both.
Getting married 29th June 2013!

I'm not having favours but I was going to make little sweetie decorations to go on each table from the stuff that I buy, might even get creative with some polystyrine balls and cocktail sticks haha

We are having a sweet/dessert buffet for our evening reception as we are only having bacon rolls and mini chip cones instead of a buffet so this will act as dessert! I think if you can afford it then go for it, the lady whose doing mine has done some FANTASTIC displays and is a little bit more then yours for 100 guests!

If I can find everything and it works out cheaper then I have thought to do it myself, really like the idea of having a chocolate fountain, popcorn machine and candy floss...think thats going abit too far though hehe
