I have been looking around for my dream dress and having found the style I am thinking about purchasing it off the internet . I have read conflicting information about doing this. There are some real horror stories of dresses not being well made and not as pictured which conflicts with other comments that the dresses are great and people are really happy. Does anyone have any experience of these sites that could ease my mind?

it can be okay but make sure you do your research properly otherwise it can very well end in tears

I am hopig to find a style i like(i have just cant afford it so going to carry on looking) and then trying to find it on the net if not i will send a pic to ann and ask her to make it.Loads of people have had dresses made by her.

i would be careful if you buy a dress off the internet. make sure the site is reputable & see if there are any customer reviews etc. i work in a wedding shop & we get brides coming in at the last minute to buy a new dress as the 1 they have bought off the internet has not arrived on time or it hasnt been in the right size, the right material, poorly made, incorrect details etc.

I have bought and returned two dresses I found on the Internet. The 1st one was too big and the 2nd I loved but the material in the skirt wasn't very good quality considering the price. I have now decided to go shopping in town to try on different styles so I know exactly what I want before buying one. The problem is, I am looking for an alternative gothic style dress and I doubt I will find what I want in a high street shop lol. If you are thinking of buying a dress on the Internet, make sure you check out their returns policy 1st to ensure it can be returned with a full refund. Happy shopping :-) xx

I have considered the idea of getting a wedding dress off the internet but was persuaded not to by my step mum who wants to go out wedding dress shopping with me!
I'd probably say to do a lot of research on the particular site and judge from that!

It doesn't matter where you get your wedding dress from chances are you will need to get it altered. I've been told by my seamstress that most dresses can be taken in up to two dress sizes but after that they start to lose their detail and shape so you don't really want to lose more than that after you have ordered the dress. You can get a local seamstress to alter you internet dress so it isn't a problem. You can go to an independent. (OnedayMrsSmith I know a good one near you who even makes them too!) or you can even go to a bridal shop and say that you had it made by a local independent seamstress but she has gone bust or whatever can they help? I know my seamstress has done dresses that have been brought in from other shops.

I am thinking about getting my dress from ebay but when I looked the prices seem way too cheap. I am very confused about this and they say they can make dresses to fit it all seems too good to be true. I think I will go shopping in town then take a chance and buy one off the internet depending on the returns pol. Am I being silly? Money is tight so I may just hire

I'm buying mine online. I've bought ordinary dresses from her before, so I have confidence that the dress will be as close to perfect as it can be. Lucky for me, my mum is brilliant with a sewing needle so, if it goes a bit odd, she can fix it.
Just make sure you buy it as far in advance as possible.

brought mine of the internet paid a fraction of the cost in the bridal shops and the quality and workmanship in the dress is beyond belief its amazing and i love it if anyone would like the web address feel free to ask and i will post it on your wall x

4lannie4, I'll have the link if you don't mind. I have also found my dream dress on Ebay at only £89.... Full refund on return is offered, so might as well go for it. In my opinion, the £89 I will pay a year before my wedding is nothing if I have a year to choose and pay for a new one. I'll put the one from Ebay in a charity shop if I don't like it on x

i got my dress from ebay and it was everything i hoped for. my friend got hers at the same time as wel and it was exactly what she ordered, my sister who got married a few years ago was the only one that had troubles, but that wasnt because the dresses werent up to scratch, they were all exactly as pictured and very good quality (she ended up buying 4 lol) but she had problems because the shape didnt suit her. So if you are buying online i definitely suggest you still go shopping around, try lots of things on and remember the shape and main features of the dresses that look best on you.
ekielty, we used that site for our bridesmaids dresses for my sisters wedding, well made but again make sure you are buying something that suits your shape.
and make sure there is some kind of remedy if it isnt what you expected, on ebay check the paypal refunds agreement, it does NOT guarantee you can send it back if the item is made to measure. it will depend on the sellers refund policy.
