    My fiance is having 7 groomsmen potentially, whereas I have only picked out 4 bridesmaids... is it tradition to have the same amount each??

    I think it's common practice to having matching numbers but is not required.

    We have 2 bm's and 4 ushers. I don't think it matters that they are balanced.

    I have one BM and then there's two ushers and best man. Unless you want to pair them all off I don't think it matters in the slightest.

    i dont think it matters tbh, traditionally they were equal numbers so they could walk down the isle with one another but it doesnt matter i have 2 bridesmaids and my oh has a best man and 2 ushers x

    We're having matching numbers, but that it more to do with a slight OCD tendency to want the number 4 (me) and 8 (h2b) involved in everything. Like people have said, there is no practical reason for it so (like everything that isn't a legal requirement) do what you want: it's your day!

    We've got 1 BM and 2 best men. I don't think it really matters about numbers as long as they are the people you want by your side.

    It very much an American thing to have equal numbers as they normally have them walk down the aisle together before the bride so it is completely up to you. Ours wont be equal though xxx

    Im having 2 bridesmaids (although possibly only 1 as shes pregnant and due 12 days before the wedding) and we're only having a best man, no ushers or groomsmen. We didnt think we needed them only having 50 guests.

    We are havin 1 MOH 2 BM to 1 best man and 2 ushers because i like everything to match and there is a tradition that the moh dances with bestman and bm dances with ushers at reception after/duing bride and grooms 1st dance,so thats why im doing it.

    Personally I don't think it matters - however, I was brow-beaten into having two BMs because H2b is having his two brothers as Best Man and Groomsman and thought it wouldn't look good if it wasn't "symmetric"!! (And they say brides are fussy...)
    So clearly I'm a pushover, but you should do what you want! ;)

    I have 3 BM, 1 MOH, 1 Best man, and 2 ushers.

    What are groomsmen? Are they Like ushers? is it the name for all the ushers/best men/dads? Or am I just having a blonde moment haha ;-) x

    I also don't think it matters if it's not equal! I agree that it's a bit of an American thing!
    But I did want an even number of BM so that the photos look symmetrical lol x

    it's annoying me this as my H2B hasn't a clue who to ask for best man duties.

    But at the moment i have:

    Bride = (ME) Groom = (H2B)
    MOH = (sister)
    BM 1 = (sister)
    BM 2 = (Niece)
    FG 1 = (Friends Child) PB 1 = (God son)
    FG 2 = (Friends Child PB 2 = (Nephew)

    There is question being that H2B is going to have two best men (as he has been a best man twice to his two mates), but one holds the rings then what does the other one do? But he is then also thinking that if he asks one to be best man, and the other not to be then there'll be upset or whatever? :-/

    Then also, going with what Lula 88 said about having 1 usher for every 50 guests, we've got 100 guests in the day so really we need two ushers. I think what H2B should do is get his two mates who he's been best man for as ushers and have someone completely different as best man!

    I have got 2 BM and 1FG

    It is up to you who you want to have in bridal party not to make up numbers. It is your day, who cares if they don't match up.

    We kinda have equal numbers, H2B has his best man and 2 ushers, I have 2 BM's (well 1 MOH/CBM and 1 BM) plus his niece as a little FG so 3 guys 3 gals.

    I don't think they have to match though, my sister had 2 BM's just like I'm having, 3 FG's and my BIL had 2 best men (couldn't choose between his brothers) and 1 usher. It looked fine.

    xx
