My best friend and bridesmaid is travelling in Mew Zealand, she went in January so missed all our wedding planning sadly. Anyhow she has busted her knee and now needing big re constructive surgery tomorrow in NZ, I'm so gutted for her and not guaranteed she will get full movement back. It also means she will be on crutches for my wedding. Also my nice pretty knee length bridesmaid dresses won't be long enough to cover her knee now so be in plaster aaarrrgggghhhh!

Anyone else had a bridesmaid on crutches? Not sure how she will carry her flowers? Xxxx

Aww bless her hope shes ok?

Ok personally I think your knee length dresses will be PERFECT for her, if she has a great big plaster cast on shes not going to want anything too long covering it as it will restrict her movement! Let her try it on with the cast and then decide!

As for her carrying a bouquet what about decorating her crutches with flowers to match the bm's bouquets instead???

I feel so sorry for your friend, she must be going through a really awful time right now. I was on crutches for my best friends wedding. I had had a big op on my foot and was in plaster up to my knee, I should not have been standing up at all, I was meant to be keeping it elevated all the time, but there was no way I was going to miss it or let my friend down. I had a knee length dress on, we tied my flowers to one of the crutches, and everyone thought this was a really great idea. I felt really concious about it to start with, but everyone was lovely, and made sure I was looked after. x

When I spoke to her on Skype all she was worried about was ruining my pictures with crutches but I couldn't care less just want her there and to be recovering, bless her!

I like the idea about decorating her crutches, she would love that! Xxx

Other option is for her to have a wrist corsage insted of decorating the crutches if she did not want to draw attention to them x
Hope she makes a speedy recovery

I was going to suggest decorating her crutches too with ribbon and flowery bits to match the bouquets :)

Hope she makes a speedy recovery!

Your dresses will be fine hun and I doubt she will still be in cast when you get married anyway. She may not even be on crutches! I have damaged my knee and had to have operations on it and they try to get you moving it and walking around on it as soon as possible as if not the muscles in the leg start to deteriorate and then that causes more problems. A family friend also had both his knees replaced and he was back to walking normally within 6 months, obviously he couldn't do alot but he could walk. So if I was you I would wait a little while and see how it pans out, but I hope her op goes well and hopefully she will be able to get full movement back in it too! xxx

I agree with linzi jo, it probably wont be apparent come the time as your wedding is 8 months away. And besides if she is still bandaged up by that point, there are other things you can do anyway where the photos are concerned. Not all photos are standing pictures and crutches can be taken away by the photographer before taking the shots.

I don't think it would even matter on the day anyway if she had a bandage and crutches or not. Most likely by that point she could get away with wearing a slim flesh coloured knee sports sock support for a few hours anyway so it won't be quite so noticeable if she needed it.

I wouldn't see why they wouldn't let her fly as its 8 months after the operation.

Oh bless ya and her not good news I hope she ok and makes a speedy recovery.

I would possibly go with the wrist corsage rather than decorating flowers as like been said if she worried about them she prob wont want the attention drawn to them but also like Linzi Jo said she may not actually need the by the time of the wedding as they do advise to walk as normal as possible as quickly as possible so your muscles etc get back to normal (fingers crossed)

With regards to her concern of photos Id speak to the photographer and also if she that concerned Im sure if she wanted to not have them while the picture was taken there would be poses that can be done and have you or otehr bridesmaids support her if she a bit unsteady xxx

you can hide crutches in photographs easily with a stragetically placed leg, we have done it in the past as for two weddings my hubby's cousin was on crutches and there is no crutch in any picture

she might not be able to fly long haul if she is in plaster, my mum had to get hospital clearance for a 20 minute flight to the isle of man from liverpool and they said the only reason she can fly is because it doesnt reach the same altitude. NZ to england would be a longa$$ flight so im not sure the airline or the hospital would let her fly.

however, its 8 months from now so she might be ok? she could just have a knee support on and 1 crutch?
