My mom says it has to be me first and i think i prefer that. I'm so nervous i just wanna get in there lol. So you think i should ask my vicar as it may be up to him? x
CommentAuthorElinor Claire
It's up to you. The traditional way is bride first, followed by bridesmaids, but bridesmaids first is becoming increasingly popular. It's a useful way of spreading it out if you have a long piece of music, and it adds to the suspense. My friend had a church wedding and she went in last. It was Methodist though, maybe the anglican church is different.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.
CommentAuthorMrsCross2be
Yes it should really for a UK wedding be bride first and then your party, the other way is the US way.
I am getting married in a Church and I dont really want "Here Comes the Bride" but most other songs take a while to get going/ to the best bit or are quite fast paced like "Arrival of the Queen of Sheba" so I think I will go with the US way and build up to my entrance. x2 flower girls, then bridesmaids then a small gap then me.
CommentAuthorMattsBride
I agree with mrscross2be i wouldn't mind going first but my choice in music means i want to go last so i can wait it our for the chorus :D
CommentAuthorBeckyU98
i went to a church wedding last weekend and the vicar refused to allow the bride to go down last. i really want my bridesmaids to go down first as i dont want to spend all that money on bridesmaid dresses for no-one to see them. MIL is insisting that i should do it the english way but i really dont want to. hoping i can persuade my vicar to let me go down last - builds up the suspense i think and makes the walking down the aisle a abit longer x
CommentAuthorJoanna
I walked down first and my sister and her daughters walked behind me. I needed her behind me to sort my train out lol. We got married in a church but i dont know if you had to go first, I just liked it the traditional way.

I don't know what my church are going to or if they are going to dictate order... I think it looks very grand having them follow behind, like maids in waiting carrying the train of a queen's dress!
And we lived happily ever after!
CommentAuthorAna40
I dont mind either way really. X

When i think of a traditional british wedding i picture the bride first with the bms holding the train so behind, but im planning on having my bms going first, so they each get thete moment, and hold the tension plus it means when i come out all eyes are on me rather than drifting behind to look at my bms too!

My bridesmaids went first and I went first as a bridesmaid at my friends wedding, I think lana is right can't have eyes wondering away from the bride to the bridesmaids lol x
CommentAuthorWhovianbride
I love being the centre of attention , i supose you could always have flower girl and a bm go first then a bm or moh go after depending on how comfortable you are with that, but i think its nice that the groom has to wait right till the end to see you x

Hmm, I hadn't really though of this but probably should do by now! I think I'll go the traditional way, it'll give me and h2b bit longer to squeeze hands up the top before the scary stuff starts!

British tradition is the bride goes in first, American tradition is the bridesmaid's first, with MOH in front of bride. I want my bridesmaids to walk the aisle first because I want them to have their time to shine before me :)

After reading the post on this thread I have to say I'm really surprised that vicars actually care about the order of the processional. Personally I like the way it looks with the bridal party preceding the bride down the aisle.
CommentAuthorkrissy905
the traditional English way is bride first followed by youngest to oldest attendants I think the Americans do it attends first followed by bride.
I'm going with my bridesmaids first and then me as this is the way I prefer it x
CommentAuthorWhovianbride
Im doing oldest to youngest , as as far as im aware fliwer girls ate supposed to go jyst before the bride to prepair the walk for the bride! And also means when they get to the end of alise can line up centre outwards moh, bm, jbm, fg, with on other side, bm,usher, usher , pageboy. So my moh can hold my flowers then at one point they can all take their seats!

I was Married in a Registry office and went last as the music I chose had two fan fares so the BM's went on the first and I went on the second!!! I went to a church Wedding last month and have to say I only really glanced at the bride as the BM's were kind of a distraction after her.
If your vicar is dictating to you a certain way then I would say agree with him, then just as you walk down the aisle change it!!!! What's he going to do, shout at you as you're walking down the aisle, Ahahahaha!!!!

I'm having my maid of honour go first, then me, then the bridesmaids so that they can spread out my train nicely before sitting down xx

I am having my BMs sort my train out before they head down the aisle in front of me. Ive only got to walk straight, no corners, so should arrive nicely straight at my H2B...hopefully haha.
Nothing stopping them sort it out quickly once I am up there. Interesting to hear about the different traditions!
CommentAuthorAlisonT58
Thanks ladies for all your advice and personal choices. We are trying to stick to tradition where we can so my H2B thinks i should go first but i'm not sure if it's because he can't handle the suspense. lol. I'm going to ask my vicars opinion and agonise over it a little longer haha who knew the details were so complicated. :)
CommentAuthorAmyH608
I agree with a lot of the posts; i want my bm's to go first so that all eyes will be on me lol! I'm also having 2 flower girls (aged 3) and 1 pageboy ( aged 5), the pageboy will walk in first followed by the flowergirls holding my mums hand!! I love this because the mother of the bride tends to get left out of that day! So at least she'll feel included! then i will have my bridesmaid and matron of honour and then last but by no means least.....me :) xx

The English tradition is bride first. We got married in a church and I went first followed by my bridesmaids which was handy as I had to negotiate a sharp corner which meant they could straightrn my train xx
