he's sprung it on us that he is not comfortable doing one... there was a big hooha a few months ago about this but we thought it was sorted :( do u think its a major part of the speeches?? my brother bless him has kindly offered to step in and make a speech :) is anyone else not having a best man speech?xx

unfortunately h2b's parents are not coming :( he hasnt seen or heard from them in years which is sad, so it would have been perfect for his best man (his brother) to have made a speech as they are SO close and have been with each other through thick and thin :(

Im having the same problem here! H2B is refusing to make a speech, best man doesnt want to either. So a bit stuck! Guess there will be no speeches! The photographer however is booked to stay until the speeches..... guess he'll be there for a long time then!

I suppose its upto him and im sure you wouldnt want him to feel forced into doing it. Its a big thing but not a big part of the speeches, and your brother is sweet offering to do a speech but be warned it will probs end up being more about you rather than h2b which is how the bestman speech usually goes lol xx

I think there's only our Best Man who IS doing a speech. Ross can't stand up and talk in front of people to save his life bless him, he's bricking it about standing at the front of the Church and doing vows etc. Not everyone is comfortable with public speaking but if your Best Man doesn't want to do it then could you not say a few words instead ??? xxx

I don't mind if i have speeches or not, my h2b, best man and the two dads are making speeches but if they come to us and say they aren't comfortable then i'd understand. It's not easy having to stand up in front of so many people. I wouldn't replace them if they chose not to though.

i know you can't force the best man to give a speech but have you\he thought about going to a coach (can't remember the name of them!) that works with people for confidence and giving speeches.
we spoke to one at a wedding fayre a little while ago. they were also happy to have a group go along so not just on a one to one basis.

thanks sharyorks, we only have 5 days so prob wont find a coach now, i was a bit annoyed for h2bs sake that he's not doing it, as i agree wiv linzi lol!x he's normally very outspoken and not the shy type at all, i think he's just lazy lol x

I don't know if H2B is making a speech and best man doesn't want to but my son , who's giving me away, has said he would like to do one and already has an idea of what he is going to say.

Nobody likes the speeches anyway - ok, so the best man's is usually the highlight, but it's the best of a bad bunch really. Just skip the whole part. If anybody in your family particularly wants to say something, have it at the ceremony instead.
