Hey ladies, we have been looking at catering and are working to a budget for the whole wedding of about £3000 so we were thinking of having a bbq. All the 3 course packages are so expensive and to get a good quality meal your looking at £30 per head, so we would be looking at just under £2000 so 2/3s of our budget which is silly. So we thought about having a bbq, which would work out at £600 (£10pp) and we have found caterers that do a good package also I think it would be more informal which is the feel we are going for.

They also do desserts for good prices.

    What does everyone else think?

I think a BBQ would be lovely hun, i went to my friends wedding a few years ago & that was on a very tight budget so we all went to a chinease after lol and paid for our own meals (which was what she wanted instead of wedding presents) xx

I'm having a BBQ instead of a wedding breakfast, it suits our day so much more than a sit down meal would and works out much cheaper too. xx

at work we've catered for a few wedding that have had BBQs and they have been a great success. and the guests seem to prefer it, they get to have what they want, so often the traditional sit down meal is too formal, and some people feel uncomfortable.

Think a BBQ is a perfect way to save on the pennies and keep people happy x

We're planning to go with one of the hog roast companies that offer half pig and half bbq, with vegetarian options of course. My partner is adamant not to have an overly formal affair and he's totally won me over!

I've been to one in the middle of August and it was fab! She had a private courtyard at the hotel so it was really nice. She then arranged for an ice cream van to arrive and everyone had a 99! was totally unique and brilliant at the same time. Also I think if people are having "grab" food then they are more likely to spend time dancing xx

I've just had a quote back from our potential venue - £650 for a hog roast which serves 120 people .... DEFINITELY going for this option!!! It will save us quite a bit of money - we will get married later in the day and this will then feed all our guests and we now need to only pay for one lot of catering - RESULT!

good plan iluvcakes! we've thought of getting the hog roast company to do rolls for in the evening for people cause thats an option which isnt too expensive. Love the ice-cream van idea zowie, was already thinking along the popcorn/candyfloss lines and I think my partner will go mad for this!

Cheers ladies we are definately going for the bbq, its perfect for our day, cheap option, informal and everyone likes bbq food and roxy good advice ill avoid the ketchup.
We are also going to save money with the evening food, we are going to have cheese and biscuits. A shop with the name spencer in it do cheese platters that you can order (i will buy the biscuits, chutneys and port from the green supermarket) ive worked out it will cost about £150 to cater for 100 guests and that will satisfy the guests who after a few drinks get a bit peckish lol
