Just browsing at wedding cakes and M&S look as though they have some really nice wedding cakes and cupcakes much cheaper than what you would pay to have one made!

    Anyone bought theirs from there??

We are getting our 3 tier wedding cake (sponge) from M&S via our hotel's fixed price package. I ordered the smallest tier to try it as after asking our hotel who supplied the cake, where I could try some, dimensions etc she caved and told me it was bought in from M&S. I actually had 23 questions regarding the cake (which if she'd just have told me straight away instead of trying to dupe me that it was baked by a fabulous baker exclusivly for our wedding she'd have saved herself lol) oh and it was h2b that pointed out how many questions I actually asked lol.

I asked in M&S if the wedding sponge cake was the same as say the birthday cakes and was told it wasn't so just spent the £12.95 to get it. IT WAS AMAZING! Possibly the nicest I've tasted in some time. It was cheap and the decor won't cost much.

Stacking is a lot easier than you think, not sure with their dowels if they come in one length and you cut them down or if they supply them the right height for their tiers but if you need to cut them down yourself make them slightly (about 3mm) smaller than the height of the cake to ensure there are no gaps between the tiers. For sponges I do a triangle of dowels but for heavier cakes like fruit I do a square. Have fun doing your cakes girls :D

I am having a sponge top tier and the strawberry cupcakes from M&S. My mum is paying for it and I can't wait to try them, they look lovely! And they are really affordable too. Going to buy a cake stand from ebay specifically for cupcakes with a top tier for £14 so not too pricey. x

If you look on youtube or BBC iplayer you might find a video of a cookery show by a woman called Lorraine Pascale. She made a cake once that had 3 tiers and showed how to stack them safely using wooden dowels.

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

Oh I'm glad you've mentioned dowels, I assumed they'd come with the cake! We're picking our three tier fruit cake up on Wednesday, so I'll let you all know how it goes.
We've had some flowers made and a plaque with our names for the top. I've bought some matching ribbon to attach around the edges, does anybody know where I'd get the pins to attach the ribbon?

    thanks xx

Wow! I didn't even realise they did wedding things :P
The cakes look amazing! I've bookmarked the White Chocolate Rose cake - looks divine!
It doesn't say anything on the page about having to pay separately for the dowels though :S

"Each cake comes on its own cake board and should be stacked using the included dowel rods." <-- it implies they are included.

Maybe certain cakes have them and others don't?

I've been looking at a white chocolate one on the website, that they show decorated with blueberries... we're having a purple and cream theme and as it happens I love blueberries, so I think we'll go with that one!! It compares really well in price to others we've looked at too. At a recent wedding fayre nearly all the cake makers quoted £100 per tier.

Well we picked our cake up on wednesday, I opened the boxes and it looks really nice, I've got my own ribbon to put on the cake anyway but the one that came on it has peeled off and lost it's stickyness.

There weren't any dowels in with my cake so tomorrows job is to find somewhere that sells dowels and also pins to attach my ribbon with x

I have just ordered mine from there as they are on special offer 3 for 2 and there are like 150 reviews saying how nice they taste. I have gone for the traditional wedding cake in extra large, large and medium and will just add some decoration myself. I ordered it to be picked up from store the day before the wedding :-)
Cost £63 i think so am well impressed :-)
