We are having our ceremony at 2.30 followed by one hourish for photos, then sit down for dinner to be served at 4.30. We are providing drinks for after the ceremony, and wanted to serve some sort of canapes. The venue have quoted £6pp, which doesnt seem alot but times 70 is £420 which is a lot for a few nibbles! Do you think having a popcorn carn would be a little odd? The venue has to do the catering unless its like a popcorn company, candy floss, ice cream bar etc? Does anyone have any other ideas that would be as expensive? I have been quoted £120 for unlimited popcorn for 2 hours! xx
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
My time's are the same as yours and we were thinking of having canapes but we're just having a champagne reception now as by the time the meal comes around they won't have an empty stomach to eat all the meal lol Popcorn cart sounds good though but not a lot of people like popcorn! Well, not many people I know like it. Ice cream bar would be loads better! xx

Ooh! Popcorn sounds ace! We're having ice cream at £280 for up to 150 people (we haggled a bit).

Im not sure you have a need for anything Emz by the time you have had your photos taken and guests have had a little chat it will be dinner time anyway. We are getting married at 1.30 and serving dinner at 3.30 and we arnt having any canapes or anything as people will have had their breakfast and at that time possibly a sarnie or something for lunch.

we're having a longer gap than you - ceremony at 1pm and reception at 3.30pm - but we're serving canapes on arrival as its bang on lunchtime and want to make sure people dont starve! lol. What about a sweetie buffet? or you could just provide some nibbles or something? though to be honest, if you're ceremony finishes at 3pm, you'll have at least an hour for photos and presumably many of your guests will be involved in that, it only leaves half an hour before food - they'll probably be fine to just wait xx

savory snacks such as nuts, tortilla chips and dips, crudites ............ but i do like the idea of a popcorn cart
and now the next chapter
CommentAuthorJilly17
I would love a popcorn cart but you dont have a long period of time between service and reception. i am not sure I would bother but yes the canapes sound expensive

We are having canapé's but also fruity bouquets don't know if u have seen them or if it's just a local company. We r having choc covered strawberries in a bouquet and a fruit basket. Large for both and it's costing us about £65 which includes the delivery. Just something light as our meal is a later one too.
CommentAuthorJilly17
The fruity bouquets sound fab! Really nice idea!
CommentAuthorsuzky123
we are having canapes just to fill the gap as ceremony at 12 and bridal breakfast at 3. It depends on how long you think your guests can go without eating.

Depending on theme. But I would say a good old fashioned cuppa and scones!!! The tea is refreshing and the scones dense enough to keep them "full" enough before eating.
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
I've just told my guest's to have a hearty lunch before coming to the venue. If they eat at 12.30-1pm they are only waiting a few more hours before having a 3 course meal. I really don't think you need to do anything extra x

i love the popcorn idea :) hehe its something different for a change :D but of course there is the risk of people not liking it... how about chocolate fondue/fountain lots of fruit but that might be to expensive, too also if their is only a few hours in between ur guests might be ok with out anything :)
CommentAuthorlala "mod" bunni
our ceremony is at 3.30 , so people should have had some lunch before coming
We are not surpplying any canepes or anything like that. Our service is at 2.00 so while we are having photos the guests will be given their hot chocolates and they will also have access to the cash bar and the court yard to mingle in before the meal which should start at 4.00. Will put on the A 2 Z that there will be no food till then tho then only bacon rolls at the reception

my ceremony is at 2pm, and dinner at 5. We are having canapes but that is only because they are free - other wise i wouldnt have bothered. And i dont think you should either to be honest, all they will do is fill up on them and have little room left for dinner
CommentAuthorLiz3yy
We're getting married at 11.30am, the wedding breakfast will be at 2pm and then the evening reception and buffet around 8pm. We're not having canapes either, can't afford it!
Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

my ceremony is at 3 dinner at 5 so im not bothering but if i was going to a wedding at that time i would have had breakfast and possibly lunch b4 i went plus i think these meals are not exactly cheap and it would really bug me if me and h2b have saved to give people a nice meal and it gets wasted i love the idea of the popcorn cart sounds so cool but if its expensive would they put out like pretzels or something like strawberries in chocolate i just think us brides to be get ripped off enough as it is lol ohhh and jae i love the idea of scones and tea lol xxxx
CommentAuthordodsden
we are going to serve strawberries with some of them covered in chocolate from a local company so they look like brides and grooms. just something small for people to nibble on while having some bubbly. xx
CommentAuthorEnny
i dont think i will bother about the canapes as its in most places just to expensive u just should see what u can afford and if its really nessesary to do so :)
CommentAuthorMrsC.Wade2B
I'm going to have just a few nibbles with the drinks after the ceremony because i feel that those who've travelled a long way might not of had time to eat properly or may feel peckish so rather than them feel uncomfortable cos their a bit hungry before the meal i'd like to at least give them that option (i've been to two weddings that had no nibbles and cos i didnt have time to eat with travel or my little one to sort i was really hungry before the meal and when it eventually came it wasn't all that nice so kinda a no win situation) but its your day and your choice x

Love the idea of the popcorn cart!
CommentAuthorCandycane
You could have a chocolate fountain or fruit tree
CommentAuthoremz382
I know it is sooo expensive with anything wedding related! I didnt even bother asking what you get for the canapes as far to expensive for some light nibble in my opinion! Maybe I will go without, im sure the bar will sell crisps if anyone gets that hungry! We are having a chocolate fountain in the evening so didnt really want to serve choc dipped strawberries as it may ruin it a little! Thanks for all your suggestions :-)
