I've decided to do my own hair and whilst I normally use my GHD's for curling I want to invest in some decent curlers but have no clue as to what is a good brand - I also could do with some advice on what products are best to use with the curlers for keeping the curl in as long as possible... as you can probably tell I'm normally a poker straight kind of girl :)

I would really appreciate all your advice & ideas. Thanks xx

ghds are amazing at curling hair, i use a loreal gel spray when i used to curl my hair and it used to last all day. i think its better than hairspray...

I would stick with the GHD's for a more natural looking curl. Tongs and wands can sometimes just make your hair look like wood shavings! I'd put something on prior to curling, ie a mousse or spay and then use a really strong hairspay like Elnette. x

try curlers/rollers, my SIL manages a chain of hair salons and swears by the wand...i guess it depends on the type of curl you want...I reckon both are good...you could get those people in shopping centres to do your hair and then you can see what works for you?

See now I have this problem! I even had my hair done by a hairdresser for a trial run to see how long curls would stay in my hair. She didnt do much with products, and they didnt last very long. my hair is very thick and as it comes nearly to the bottom of my back, its very heavy. Curls just drop out of my hair. GHD's didnt even last 2 minutes before dropping x

i would use a mousse in your hair prior to curling then use a good strong hold hairspray after curling to help them last. xx

I can't really give advice on this as my hair is naturally curly, just thought how funny it is that we girls want what we don't have, like i would love to have poker straight hair and although i can straighten it...just, it will always have a kink appear somewhere and even at the slightest hint of rain, it starts to curl again, lol. I do have ceramic rollers that i have never tried for when i want uniform curls, not sure if they are any good though. Hope you find the right solution, curls always look lovely on a bride! x

Just been looking at the Wands (never knew they existed before!) thanks Raekim they are only about £20 so that's not a bad investment.

Welf does the Gel Spray leave your hair all sticky? xx

I like rag rolling - bendy rollers. Go to bed with wet hair and the bendy rollers in and when u wake up take the rollers out and you have lovely curls. Havn't tried this for years though. My hair is currently going through a wont curl stage though, and I am no good at using straightners or rollers or curling tongs, miss bits or get kinks ;)

    I'm now a married woman
    I have a gorgeous husband

My hair is also hard to keep a curl in and I find that going to bed with damp hair in rollers works far better for me than any type of heat product. The only problem is that if my hair is too wet with it being so thick it isn't always dry in the morning so I have to just spray each section a little before rolling to make sure it isn't over wet. I also find if you put in too much product that it also makes it weigh down so doesn't always do you favours to put too much in. If you hair is that long I would think that most things you try won't work that well but if you had some layers put in to take some of the weight taken out of it you might get better results.

My hair stylist used Ghds for the wedding, and it looked amazing. She prepped my hair first with mousse, so I started with wet hair, she worked in some mousse and dried it. Then came the curls, followed by the world's thickest coat of hairspray - but they looked great and held all day.
