So we decided to sit down and talk about what wedding we're wanting.
My fiance wants to get married abroad with just our closest friends and family then a huge party when we get back.... I'm kinda leaning towards a wedding back home where all our friends and family can come too.
We just duno what to go for really. I'm not sure if my nanna would fly and I would hate for her to not see me get married but I think hes worried that there would be loads of my family there and not many of his...
Whats everyone elses thoughts on getting married abroad? Ive got no idea how to even start pricing it - is this a job for the travel agent to look at? Do you ask people to pay for their own flight n accommodation or are we meant to cover that? SO CONFUSED haha! xx

    Happily Married! :) xxx

You could maybe get married abroad and then have a blessing when you get home, then your nanna will get to see you, i think you will need to decide where you want to marry and then look at your budget as to weather you can pay for others to attend or not, why not start by finding your destination first and what sort of wedding you want abroard, do you want beach or something like vegas or new york,im sure once you have figured that out everything else will fall into place, as for your nanna not flying , my dad will be 86 next year when we marry and he hopefully is flying back from oz xx

I'm getting married in Kos. Decided on Greece as it isn't too far for people to fly. Fourteen of us have booked so far and all are paying for themselves however we will be paying for the reception meals.
Once we decided on a destination we then looked into wedding planners on the Island. I found out the prices first of how much everything will cost - legal bits, meals, flowers, hair and make up, cake, photographer, etc (I didn't want to book with a Travel Agent as was told you don't find out these details until after you've booked and their prices are very expensive). Then I booked!
We've booked to get married in a Restaurant, who I contacted direct, and both them and the wedding planner have been great.

Have a look at the places you'd like to marry then search for wedding planners. I also read hundreds of reviews of the Restaurant on T/Advisor.

We got married in Vegas. There were 10 of us in total (inc us) and then we had a blessing in our local park done by our very good frien; that way hubby's family and my Godmother, best friend etc. still got to feel as though they were part of something. then we had a party in a local restaurant and had a DJ and we got to do a proper first dance. We had the cake there as well as our wishing tree (instead of a guest book). For us, it was absolutely the right thing to do. We would have not have coped with the stress of a big wedding over here let alone with being the centre of attention for the ceremony.
Everyone that came to Vegas paid for their own flights and accomodation etc. The only thing we paid for was the wedding day itself. We went to the Top of the World restaurant for lunch and then later in the afternoon/early evening we went on a sunset limo tour with everyone in an obscene hummer limo! I would never do anything like that here, but when in Vegas...!
I think as long as people are clear about what you are paying for and what they are expected to pay for so they know ahead and can possibly save if needed, it's fine.

where abroad will make a huge diff as too how many friends and family will be there ... me and my h2b were really considering getting married in NYC on our own ... but after quite a few further discussions we realised that family sharing our day with us ment more so hopefully NYC is going to be our honeymoon destination, but i think its a once in a lifetime and needs to be right for you a nd if you can do it abroad and still have the important friends and family sharing it with you ...my opinion would be go for it xx

I've booked through Kosweddings. I found out all the information through their website. They have been very helpful and are charging just under £900 which includes our documents (birth certificates and certificates of non impediments) translated into Greek, flowers for myself, partner, bridesmaid and flower girl, Hair for myself, bridesmaid and flower girl, and make up for myself. All we've got to do beforé we go is get the certificates on non impediments and send them and the birth certificates off to be stamped with the apostille Hague (or something like that). I'm not really sure of this bit but the wedding planner will inform me closer to the time.
We are getting married in Lofaki. We have a figure of 911 euros which includes 25 meals, a cake and a photographer (200 euros of this is a reservation fee).
We've never been to Kos beforé. I really wanted to get married in Turkey but the legal bit put us off. I've read so many excellent reviews of weddings in Kos, I just hope mine is as good.

We also went to my cousins wedding in Vegas! and was brilliant. We went to the excalibur hotel (where they got married) We paid for our own flights and hotel. & went for a week. Was a brilliant atmosphere :) Quite a few of us there too....

I would love to get married abroad, but majority of the family have, i wanted to stay at home :) & found a gorgeous venue :)

Forgot to say earlier that we didn't have a wedding planner or anything like that. We sourced everythign ourselves and negotiated on everything. We even had the finders-of-trail in a 'bidding war' with the travel co beginning with 'V' and another independant agent. It was a real sense of achievement, but hard work and a little worrying at times.

hi b2bnicola we are getting married abroad in Kos. We have booked through a main travel agent to get married on the beach at the hotel we are staying in.

There is only me and my fiancé going and we are having a blessing & party when we get back.

It has cost £500 for the legal bits and bobs and £700 pounds for the whole wedding/meal/photographer/flowers/hair & makeup. Basically everything you would need for the day. And then it was just the actual holiday on top of that!

Been to kos a few times & got engaged here would recommend it to anyone!!

    xx

If i could change all our plans i wouldnt get married abroad! h2bs brother is getting married today in greece and his mum and dad have only gone from that side of the family, And only her parents from her side! I would hate for my family not to be able to go to my wedding! I couldnt do it. But everyone is diffrent. the only ood thing i can see about getting married abroad is you get a honeymoon at the sametime x

Well we've been thinking about it and trouble is me, h2b, mil, my mam and dad all work for the same company so if it was a hol abroad the office would have to be shut which isn't feasible! so im thinking it may be off the cards :( x

we always said we'd get married abroad but when we actually started planning we too realised that the people we really wanted to be there was our grandparents and there is no way any of them would fly! we are now getting married over here, our thinking is that they arent going to be around forever and we really want them there to share our special day x x

We didn't want to get married at home (Leeds) because we couldn't decide on a venue - but we didn't want to get married abroad. We decided on a small wedding with just close family - but went to Gretna for the weekend, so got the best of both lol...!!!
