I had never heard of the silver sixpence in the shoe thing until i got engaged and saw an ad in some bridal mag.

    Questions:

    Why?
Is is uncomfortable? I can't imagine it being comfortable walking around with that in your shoe all day.
    Is anyone actually doing this?

    just found this online:
The placing of a silver sixpence in the bride's shoe was to ensure wealth in the couples married life. Today some brides substitute a penny in their shoe during the ceremony as silver sixpences are less common.
im having a sixpence in mine but a few brides on here arent

I had never heard of it before either until my mum told me. She has one that she's had for a while and it really isn't that big and rather thin.

Would do it...but as have open toe sandals for my wedding shoes I cant. Do you think it counts if H2B has one in his??? Saves me the pain :) xxx

Ive heard of a silver sixpence being sewn into a little pocket in the dress or attached to the bouquet as an alternative to wearing it in the shoe.. lovely tradition xx

Ooh, I like both those ideas lol - let H2B take the pain and also love the idea of having it sewn into the dress of attached to the bouquet.

Where can I get a silver sixpence? Not sure yet whether I'll do it but if it's cheap I might.

I've managed to get a sixpence in the year h2b was born - 1966. I was born 10 years after but the money had all changed by then. Thought it'd be a nice touch with his year of birth on. I picked it up from one of the little nicknack store in Goathland when we went for a ride about up there last year x

I have thought about gluing it to the sole of my shoe (under the heel part!) Sewn into my dress or i may just carry it in my bag. My h2b got me mine :-) x

Awww that's so sweet of him! Fat chance of my H2B thinking of that lol. TBH he's all preoccupied with securing a house for us to live in so I shouldn't complain as he's doing most of the leg work for it.

I like the gluing idea too hun - thanks. I'm going to look for "I Do" stickers and a silver sixpence on the bay and see whether I cn bag me a bargain.

They really cheap on the bay, just had a look. Think I'm going to make a list of everything like this that I fancy getting and then doing a big shop on there, I have plenty of time for the little details. I'm not sure how genuine some of them are on the bay. Did you ladies get new ones? Apart from the 1966 one for Clare.

It goes at the end of
    something old,
    something new.
    something borrowed,
    something blue
and a silver sixpence in her shoe.

I am having one, with my birth year on it. and I am taping it down so its not uncomfortable.
I also have one each to put inside my bridesmaids trinket boxes I got them as a gift.

    It means wealth.

Yea mine was 99p on the bay. Can't have h2b year as it had changed by then. I'm planning on doing some trial and error and taping it to the inside sole of my shoe in my arch.

I bought a silver sixpence the other day from a market stall, it cost me 10p, I got one for the year my mum was born as it was the only year that meant something to me out of the collection. I showed it to my 5 year old daughter and said "guess who was born in 1960?" and she answered "I know who it was...Jesus", lol bless her! Anyway my shoes are also peep toe so I have got to think up a plan on how im going to fix it in there, I think its a really nice old tradition. xx

Yea think I might steal that idea, def using tape to start with to get position right then can use a plaster for cushion. Would a corn plaster be best? Really squishy and the right shape (and size I think).
