My engagement ring is 18ct white gold but the wedding ring I have seen only comes in platinum!!!!! can these sit next to each other or not, I know that you cant have 18ct and 9ct gold together as one wears the other away but is it the sam with platinum and white gold??? does anyone know, thank you x

not sure about the wear but white gold goes yellow whereas platinum does not so youd probably notice the different colours after a while unless you get the white gold re coated regularly

I think you would have been ok if it had been yellow gold but white gold will wear yellow. I've heard a few myths about 9k being harder than 18k but the jewellers in Birmingham told us that although 9k is harder they both wear about the same although you don't really want to mix 9k and 18k together as they are different colours.

what about 18ct rose gold next to the white gold, as my second choice was a two colour ring it has a platinum centre and thin strip of rose gold on either side..... do you think this may work?? x

can you not ask the jeweller if they'll make it in white gold for you.

I got my ring changed from platinum to palladium just by querying if they'd do it for me and it nearly halved in price. Got the perfect ring at a more reasonable price that way. :)

as long as the white gold and yellow gold are 18ct they shouldnt damage each other but you will have to get the white gold regularly dipped to keep it white.

Yeh I was always told not to put a gold pendant on a silver chain as gold is so soft it would make a ridge in it. It is so easy to wear it down and ruin the gold.

good luck with asking at tiffanys but I'm not sure where they make em, it might be a lot more difficult to get something made for you.

Could you sneak a picture and take it to a goldsmiths to see if they would be able to make it for you??

    I'm now a married woman
    I have a gorgeous husband
    Whats to do now
Theres no more wedding planning to do

JLR i am a jeweller and have trained in metals, i am having a platinum band next to my 18ct white gold engagement ring, the girls are right in that platinum is harder than 18ct gold so has the potential to wear against ur engagement ring but in my opinion it takes years and years to do any significant damage , white gold is rhodium plated, rhodium is a by product of platinum, it is the rhodium that wears over time to leave the ring looking slightly yellowy . i have gone with platinum so i never have to take my wedding ring off as even if you have both rings in 18ct white gold both they will still both need re- rhodium plating every 2 years or so. xx
