Eight Derby Buildings That Make Great Wedding Photos
24 September 2019Derby is filled with buildings that make it a unique and interesting city, and some make really interesting backgrounds to your wedding photos and really illustrate the place you chose to get married. Here are eight of our favourite buildings…
1. Marble Hall or ‘The Rolls Royce Factory’
Yes, Rolls Royces were made in Derby! Now they are not and this building is modern workspaces, but they left behind a very impressive building with important ties to the history of the city. It would make a great industrial look to your photos.
2. Church of St Mary and St All Saints
The crooked spire of this church is one of the most iconic sights of Derby and its twisted spire remains a mystery to this day – was it built that way in the 14th century or was it a mistake in construction? Regardless of the conspiracy, it makes a very unique wedding photo backdrop.
3. Derby Arena
For more of a modern backdrop, you could use Derby Arena. It’s home to Britain’s fifth indoor cycling track and cost £27,000,000 in total to construct! It’s so unique and perfect if you have a yellow wedding them!
4. Chatsworth House
You will have heard of this one. Chatsworth House is undeniably beautiful surrounded by scenic parkland and sitting prominently in the centre. It has an incredible history and you can get even get married in this beautiful spot.
5. Ashbourne Tunnel
This one’s a little more spooky, but if you want something really different or perhaps you’re getting married on 31st October, this is a fantastic idea. It’s said to be haunted with the sound of approaching trains that used to run through it until 1953. Creepy…
6. Derby Cathedral
Derby Cathedral is of course very beautiful too. The Grade I listed Cathedral church was promoted from a parish church in 1927 in order to make a seat for the Bishop of Derby. It’s England’s smallest Anglican Cathedral – sometimes the best things come in small packages!
7. St Helen’s House
This gorgeous building is Grade I listed and has served many purposes over the years. A former home and then school, St Helen’s is now a workplace. It’s also a fantastic backdrop for Derby weddings.
8. Kedleston Hall
And finally, there’s Kedleston Hall. Its sweeping staircases in the front entrance are what separates Kedleston from other country manors. It’s really unique and quite romantic. It was built in the middle of the 18th century and is now owned by the National Trust.
