However, this can be really important for when you look back on your big day for years to come. Here are 10 spots in Peterborough that make it the perfect place to tie the knot…
1. Peterborough Cathedral
Obviously, first of all there’s Peterborough Cathedral. This magnificent 12th century building is one of the most important in the UK to remain largely in tact despite restoration. It’s known for its imposing early English gothic West Façade with its three enormous arches. It was founded in the Anglo-Saxon period but its architecture is largely Norman. It’s gorgeous for photos!
2. Ferry Meadows
For more of a natural styling, there’s Ferry Meadows. It’s one of the largest country parks in the region filled with lakes, wildlife, meadows as the name suggests and intriguing sculptures. Take a walk in the park with your photography and your partner for some really romantic lakeside shots.
3. Peterborough Guildhall
The Guildhall was completed in 1671 and has become a focal point for the city ever since. If you’re from Peterborough, you’ll know of this structure and you’re probably already planning to incorporate it into your wedding photos; it’s undeniably Peterborough’s monument and it looks fantastic.
4. Longthorpe Tower
People travel for miles to see Longthorpe Tower. It’s a three storey 14th century ancient monument with an exceptional collection of domestic wall paintings, arguably the most complete and important in the whole of Europe. If you are history buffs and you want something really memorable in your photos, this one is a really unique backdrop.
5. Peterborough United Football Club
Known to locals as ‘The Posh,’ if you’re football fans or perhaps your partner is a football hooligan crazy about this local team, surprise him with a trip to Peterborough United Football Club!! It makes a really unique backdrop and means something important to you both.
6. Thorpe Hall and Gardens
Close to Longthorpe Tower, this Grade I listed landmark built in the 17th century is now a hospice with a fascinating history. The gardens create the best backdrop with urns, mature trees, a sunken rose garden, a rock garden and even waterfalls! Fascinating place and a very beautiful one for photos.
7. Flag Fen
If you’re big history buffs and you’re going for a Viking theme or something really historic, Flag Fen will provide a fantastic backdrop. It provides an insight to how our Bronze Age ancestors lived with huts and live acts and reenactments. Imagine how fun your photos will be!!
8. Sacrewell Farm
So we’ve covered sports fans, history buffs and nature enthusiasts. How about couples who love animals? Sacrewell Farm is filled with farm animals adding a really sweet touch to your wedding day. It will be really special to look back on your day if you are totally obsessed with animals to find you both madly in love and surrounded by the cutest little cows.
9. Holme Fen Nature Reserve
Combining animals and wildlife with nature, this reserve is absolutely idyllic. It’s the lowest point in the UK, filled with streams and rivers, an abundance of nature and plant life, and plenty of animals in between. Simply stunning and a perfect backdrop!
10. City Centre Water Fountains
And finally, the centre of town is a great spot for photos. It’s filled with water fountains that shoot water up from under the ground. You’ll often see it on a hot summer’s day frequented by children daring to run in and out of the water shoots laughing uncontrollably. It’s just a great place and at night, when all lit up, it makes a great wedding photo scene.
